Here's the third movement from Hovhaness' "Mysterious Mountain":

But I really recommend the whole piece. It's one of my favourite classical pieces and -- as Timmer can attest to -- reminiscent of Vaughan Williams' pastoral style.

I must thank you for recommending Hovhaness' "Mysterious Mountain." Beautiful work I had not heard even though I am familiar with Hovhaness. My favorite piece by Hovanhess is another work similarly inspired by the mountains, his Symphony No. 50, "Mount St. Helens." The piece is a musical interpretation of the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens. The first movement depicts the serenity of the mountain prior to the eruption. The second movement depicts a nearby lake, Spirit Lake, in which the entire reflection of the mountain could be seen. The last movement features the violent explosion of the volcano (the top of the mountain came off and buried the lake).

As far as mountain themed film score cues I would suggest Jerry Goldsmith's The Mountain from Star Trek V and The Trees from Medicine Man.

    These are rather majestic:

Wild Africa - Snowcaps on the Equator (Gunning)
    Cliffhanger - End credits (Jones)
Merlin - In search of the grail (Jones)
Out of Africa - Flying over Africa (Barry)
