Its getting to be that time of year again.

D, you better show up and post your non-Hollywood recommendations...I shudder to think how much great music I will miss out on otherwise...I'm still discovering things you posted about 2 years ago that I saved in my massive "to-get" list.

Here are some of my favorites. I might add mini-descriptions of them later.

    Korzeniowski - Romeo & Juliet
    Orvarsson - The Mortal Instruments
    McCreary - Da Vinci's Demons
Tyler - Iron Man 3, Standing Up
    Armstrong - The Great Gatsby
    Velazquez - The Last Days
    Schyman - Bioshock Infinite
Zimmer - Man of Stzzzz, The Lone Ranger, Rush
    Jackman - Kick-Ass 2
    Howard - After Earth
Kallis - Gagarin: First In Space
Ottman - Jack The Giant Slayer
    Williams - The Book Thief
    Trapanese - Oblivion
    Eyquem - Copperhead
    Balfe - Girl Rising
    Malo - The Celestine Prophecy
    Deriviere - Remember Me
Powerglove - Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon
Djawadi - Pacific Rim, Game of Thrones Season 3
I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to!

I'll have to wait another month before I do my tally.
    I am extremely serious.

Well yes, its not actually the end of the year yet smile But feel free to post what you have enjoyed so far and then come back and add more...I'm pretty sure I'll at least be adding a certain Howard Shore score soon...

    Same here.

I have to admit that there's been some decent stuff this year.

I haven't picked my favourite score yet but by far Brian Tyler is composer of the year.

Haven't heard as much new music this year, as I would have liked. Anyway, so far my favorites are:

Michael Giacchino: Star Trek Into Darkness
Hans Zimmer: Man of Steel, The Lone Ranger, Rush
Brian Tyler: Thor: The Dark World, Iron Man 3
    John Williams: The Book Thief
    Alan Silvestri: The Croods
    James Newton Howard: After Earth
Powerglove: FarCry 3 - Blood Dragon
    Steven Price: Gravity
    Ryan Amon: Elysium
    Joseph Trapanese: Oblivion

A lot of "electronic" stuff on that list, which kind of surprises me smile But The Hobbit - The Desolation of Smaug will definitely be on the list as well, and that should tip the balance in favor of "classical" scores again smile

For me: La migliore oferta (Morricone) and The book thief (Williams)

    Charry - L'Ecume Des Jours
    Velazquez - The Last Days

I had no knowledge of these. What are they like?

    I believe this is a 2006 score?

My favorites so far this year are:

SPACE SHUTTLE COLUMBIA: MISSION OF HOPE - Blake Neely
    AUSTENLAND - Ilan Eshkeri
ROMEO AND JULIET - Abel Korzeniowski
    WINNIE MANDELA - Laurent Eyquem
THE BOOK THIEF - John Williams
    RED WING - Lorne Balfe

I also think these scores are pretty strong, and some have some really wonderful highlights:
    LA MULA - Oscar Navarro
THE GREAT GATSBY - Craig Armstrong
THE ULTIMATE LIFE - Mark McKenzie
    AFRICA - Sarah Class
GIRL RISING - Lorne Balfe and Rachel Portman
GAGARIN: FIRST IN SPACE - George Kallis
THE LONE RANGER - Hans Zimmer & Co.
    SIDDHARTH - Andrew Lockington

There are quite a few scores I would really like to hear that I haven't yet. I'm confident they'll end up as top scores for me. COPPERHEAD, SUMMER IN FEBRUARY, SAVING MR. BANKS, hopefully THE HOBBIT and some others that don't come to mind right now.

And a special shout out to Tuomas Kantelinen, whose score to the ballet LUMIKUNINGATAR (THE SNOW QUEEN) is one of my favorite works of the year also.

Abel Korzeniowski will feature two strong entries for me with ESCAPE FROM TOMORROW and ROMEO AND JULIET.

I'd forgotten Andrew Lockington's SIDDHARTH was from this year, there's nothing particularly ground-breaking or original but I liked it a lot, I'm always a sucker for Indian/Asiatic flavoured scores cool

Yeah... but aren't we picking the best scores for films released this year... like we do every year?

I removed the Charry score because I got it mixed up with Catalano's Magnifica Presenza which is actually from 2012.

    The Last Days
is from a Spanish film, its fairly standard suspense / low-key action for its first 75% but then the final 10 minutes are a wonderful catharsis of power and beauty which comprises the 2nd best thing I've heard from the composer after Lo Imposible.

Sweet! I'll have to check it out. This is why I appreciate these lists. I always learn about scores that weren't on my radar.

I'm sorry, Scribe. I don't know why I didn't see this topic. Perhaps now you can narrow your list down in the new one? smile
