OK, this has now become a reality.

I've booked the flights (expensive!) and the hostel in Berkeley (also extremely expensive for a hostel -- even though I booked a single room with shared bathroom). What I miss is accomodation in New York from the 1st to the 6th. I'm in Boston from the 6th to the 9th, when I return to Oslo.

YAY! (the calculated $3000 price tag for the whole thing....not so 'yay').
    I am extremely serious.

I thought it was implied, but forgot to ask explicitly:

    Anyone else planning on going?

Nope! Good on you Thor but something like that would have to be a "small part" of a larger trip for me to go that distance.

I salute your dedication to the main man wave

  1. yeah

Also I'm saving up for several other things currently, so that price tag is out of my reach. I am satisfied to experiance Ennio Morricone in Cologne in some weeks.
I hope you'll have a great time over there, Thor.

Well, it is part of a larger thing. I've never been in NY before, so the 5 days in advance of the concert will be pure touristy things.

The price tag is torture, but it's one of those bucket list trips I need to cross off.

What consequence this will have for other film music trips (and non-film music trips) in 2014 is too early to tell.

That's too expensive for me for one trip too. I could do 3 or 4 European festivals with that. But I'm glad you are going, he's your favourite composer!

Yeah -- the combination of John Williams and New York is worth a LOT to me. I still hope to do Ghent, though, providing the guests are attractive enough. Krakow I hope to get sponsored. But no Tenerife or Spain or Cologne or Vienna.

I see now that the price will probably be closer to $3600!

Turned down by John Williams again. sad

No interview, not even a chance to meet him.

But at least this time his assistant asked him, and gave me his reply. I guess that's the closest I'll ever get.

Seriously, the guy is more shielded than the Pope and Barack Obama combined.

Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

Dense schedule. I can appreciate that, but I don't think Williams himself would have minded meeting me for 30 seconds in a hotel lobby or something. It's the apparatus around him which seems to do most of the shielding.

Yeah, I'm obviously envious out of mind about that (and for the surprisingly many in my film music circle who have managed a meeting), but I comfort myself in the fact that it was many years ago, when he was not quite as shielded as now.

It's a bit like Cannes back in the 70s, where you could easily bump into a Jack Nicholson walking the beach, whereas these days you're lucky if you get a glimpse of them as they exit their cars about 1 km away.

I'm organizing a film music get-together in New York on either the 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th of June.

Does anyone posting here live in the area and would like to join? Do we have any members, at all, from New York? Bregt?

No one from New York here?

I've set the deadline for sign-up for this event (now set to June 4th) for FRIDAY, MAY 9th! That's one week from now.
