  1. Ubisoft Announces Collaboration with Cliff Martinez on Far Cry 4® Soundtrack
Drive, Traffic and Spring Breakers composer pens the soundtrack for upcoming open-world shooter Far Cry 4

November 3, 2014– Today, Ubisoft® announces that it partnered with film composer and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Cliff Martinez to compose the original game soundtrack for its upcoming open-world, first-person shooter Far Cry 4, the much-anticipated sequel to the #1 rated shooter of 2012.* Cliff has a background in music as a former member of the award-winning rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers and has composed scores for films including “Traffic,” “Drive” and “Spring Breakers.”

Working with Ubisoft Montreal’s Far Cry 4’s Music Designer Jerome Angelot, Music Supervisor Simon Landry and Audio Director Tony Gronick, Cliff created original music specifically for Far Cry 4’s gameplay and helped bring to life the gorgeous, yet ruthless environment and the unforgettable characters found in the game.

“Bringing Cliff on board was a no-brainer. Collaborating with him was a dream. He has the remarkable ability to portray compelling emotions and elevate the mundane into extraordinary with his musical talent,” said Tony Gronick, Audio Director for Far Cry 4, Ubisoft. “Cliff delivered everything I hoped for. I’m so proud of the music in Far Cry 4 and am thankful for the opportunity to work with him.”

“It was an honor to be asked to write the music for the Far Cry 4 game as my first full-length video game soundtrack,” said Cliff Martinez. “It was exciting for me to be asked to take my usual minimalistic cinematic approach to the immersive game world. Any game where you can ride on a rampaging elephant is a project you can't turn down!”

In Far Cry 4, players find themselves in Kyrat, a breathtaking, perilous and wild region of the Himalayas struggling under the regime of a despotic self-appointed king. Using a vast array of weapons, vehicles and animals, players will write their own story across an exotic open-world landscape.

The Far Cry 4 Original Game Soundtrack digital edition will release worldwide on November 4, the limited 2-CD edition will release on December 2 in North America and on December 9 in Europe, and the limited 3-LP edition will release in January 2015.

Far Cry 4 will be available November 18 worldwide for major platforms and Windows PC.

Listened to some of this on Rdio and wasn't impressed. I haven't played the game yet of course, but I'm struggling to imagine how it fits. Ubisoft games in recent years have rarely had interesting scores so I suppose it's not surprising.

Didn't you like Far Cry 3? I thought the general consensus around here was that it was pretty great. Then there's Deriviere's Freedom Cry, contender for best video game score of 2014, also for a Ubi Game (TM).
I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to!

No I didn't really enjoy Tyler's score for 3. Honestly I can't remember much about it other than not being too impressed by it. I didn't enjoy the game that much either after a few hours of playing. I often experience recent Ubisoft games in the same way: going from being hyped about the concept pre-release, to loving it for about 3 hours, to debating as to whether I should even bother finishing the single-player. They have some great ideas, but I ultimately feel left down by their games. I hope The Division changes that.

I'd completely forgotten about Freedom Cry, that's a good one, and definitely my favorite AC score.

I really enjoyed Far Cry 3, the game, and thought Tyler's score enhanced it significantly, but I can understand why some of the game's many flaws would have turned you off. I do wish Ubi would branch out a little bit more with their open world games and try some other game mechanics besides "go to high point and look around to unlock repetitive missions"...

  2. I liked Tyler's theme for Far Cry 3 and that was pretty much it. And Cliff Martinez' name is not one that gives me hope. tongue

Yes, well, in the matter of Martinez I fear our opinions don't quite align 100%.
