The only film composer who has truly come back from the dead to have a glorious second phase in his career.
RIP. Glorious melodies and endless meandering progressions you've left behind.A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

I already talked about him in the RIP topic, so all I have left for this thread is this:
It´s John Barry Day, everyone.

Very sorry to hear that. Everyone knows I was not his biggest fan, but there's absolutely no denying his position in film music history, and when he got it on in a given theme, he really got it on. I guess this was kinda expected, especially for those who attended the Barry concert in Ghent last year. He was not able to come himself and had to send a video message instead. Still, it's always a shock when one of the cornerstones of our small niche leaves this mortal coil.
RIP, Mr. Barry.I am extremely serious. -

Some very fine words from David Arnold on the death of John Barry:

My first John Barry score was Goldfinger. A lot of pleasure from a wonderful composerlisten to more classical music! -
- CommentTimeJan 31st 2011
Though we still have some fine composers working today, and Barry certain did nothing in a long time, it feels like film scoring as I know it, died today.
And how aweful just shy of Valentine's Day -- his wife is still alive, right? The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else. -

Thanks for this bud. Seeing the man conducting is something I've never had the pleasure of.

Indeed. Tim must be devastated by this."considering I've seen an enormous debate here about The Amazing Spider-Man and the ones who love it, and the ones who hate it, I feel myself obliged to say: TASTE DIFFERS, DEAL WITH IT" - Thomas G. -

Just finished listening to my favourite tracks from my John Barry scores - a few minutes over 5 hours of music. Started off with You Only Live Twice and finished off with Hanover Street. And enjoyed every single minute of it.
Mercury Rising and Body Heat were new to me today and fit nicely in with the rest of my favourites and I had forgotten how good Four In The Morning is.
Thank you, Mr. Barry. You're memory will live on in your music. The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

May seem a bit OTT but I'm just about to raise my glass in memory of John Barry. If you partake of anything this evening/today why don't you join me in celebrating the life of a great composer! The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

Start with the John Barry 4CD set from Silva... if you don't have it already. An excellent introduction to the man's work.

NP: AGNUS DEI (The Scarlet Letter version)
Although not Barry's composition, it's his arrangement, and it seems most appropriate. -

Love that cue, maybe even more than the strings version.
