I only remember it as an entertainingly forgetable action/comedy starring Mel Gibson and Goldie Hawn, the fact I don't remember anything about the score says a lot to me ( as in I heard nothing to like ), back in the days of no sound clips I used to pay a lot of attention to scores in films.

It's good that you forgot about it.

  4. While I somehow warmed up to it, I still think it's one of the worst scores Hans wrote (Bird on a Wire).

Haven't really heard the score, but I love the rendition of "Aquarius" from HAIR in it.
    I am extremely serious.

Having recently heard that I thought it was dreadful.

It's brilliant, a fresh take on the original with an almost dark electrobeat!

We have to, yes. smile (the singing is not very good, I grant you, but GOD, how I love that beat and the bluesy piano flourishes!).
    I am extremely serious.
  5. I'd like an expanded treatment of Backdraft, there are at least 20 minutes of unreleased good material in the movie and the sequencing while being an interesting program (dark underscore leading to an emotional outburst from action music to the dramatic funeral piece), leaves a lot of material and is a bit baffling in the preference of underscore over thematic statements.

  6. I'd certainly like to hear an expanded Backdraft. I would like one of those film order/remastered album release as I find the way in which they have set the album to be quite effective at manipulating my emotional heart-strings: makes me cry every time (when they are all in the fire engine cab on their way to the next job and the camera rises above them to give a wide shot of the city and their destination.)

I like the Backdraft album. Always been one of my favourite Zimmers. Don't really remember any of the unreleased music from my last viewing of the film (last year I think) - but then, I rarely do.

I've never seen the film but it's the first Zimmer score I ever bought ( back in 92-3 I think? ) due to an excellent review in Soundtrack magazine and absolutely loved it and still love it to this day. I remember thinking that he was the new 'best thing' in film music, unfortunately it's mostly been a dislike than love relationship since then.

    The next Kritzerland is:

    "The Rat Race" (Bernstein)

[...] The first ever release of one of Elmer's greatest 50s/early 60s scores - in stereo - with that incredible theme that's one of his best [...]

    Less than 200 copies left.

  8. Kritzerland's next title is actually three scores on 2CD's -- so far only one has been guessed:

It's Mr. Friedhofer - as most know, one of my favorite film composers ever. Three scores on two CDs. One of them, as has been mentioned, is a near-complete (missing only seven minutes of music) The Rains of Ranchipur - in mono (the stereo mags, for the most part, are not usable for most of the score), but really good mono, plus we do have the few surviving cues in stereo that were on the Varese CD and one additional short part of the end title in stereo.

Of the two other titles, one has been out before, but has been completely re-mixed for this release and sounds absolutely incredible, and it has two short unreleased cues added, and the third score has never been released in any form. Let's just say, I'm dancing a jig.

  9. Speaking of what the upcoming box set (probably next year) might be from Perserverence Records, a FSM user makes these guesses, which La La Land Records replies with what I assume is exactly what some of us think it is:

    La La Land Records:
Possible 80s box set candidates (IMHO):
    Police Academy
    Beverly Hills Cop
    The Naked Gun
    Evil Dead
    maybe Lethal Weapon

I can assure you 4 of those mentioned are not it.

I would die and go to heaven if it were BEVERLY HILLS COP.

More likely, though, it's the POLICE ACADEMY thingies.
    I am extremely serious.
  10. For LLLR, yes, but for PR, not. A couple FSM posters nailed it: PR had said some time back they were trying to release "Highlander", and considering their relationship with J. Peter Robinson, it's likely the PR box set will be the Highlander movie scores.

OK, then. Then it's not terribly exciting to me, as I already have the ol' Epic album with the three first scores (even though Kamen's segment could do with some remastering).
    I am extremely serious.

  12. All three films revealed by Kritzerland:

The Rains of Ranchipur almost complete (only seven minutes missing, and those cues are really covered in the rest of the score), in mono, with the usable stereo tracks in the bonus section.

Seven Cities of Gold - remixed and sounding incredible, with two short unreleased cues added.

The Blue Angel - a shockingly underrated film, and a short but wonderful Friedhofer score (a lot of the music in the film is source and songs). Two CD set.
