Wasn't quick enough for the Williams and Goldsmith, so here's the next most appropriate composer thread I can start!
Here's to Horner. -

Some very short audio clips from The Spiderwick Chronicles can be heard on the official homepage (start page + "Field Guide").

Nothing new from Horner since "Apocalypto", so I hope he delivers something good with "The Spiderwick Chronicles". A great oportunity for Horner to do what he does best. Let´s have faith...Anything with an orchestra or with a choir....at some point will reach you -

Well, he also scored In Bloom some months ago. But the film will be released next year and the distributer has not yet decided the exact date. So we have to wait a few months for a possible score album. At least this is what Magnolia Pictures told me. -

finally a project Horner can do something fun with, I don't mind when he borrows, as long as he keeps it enjoyable and fun
I'm especially looking forward as what he'll do with Avatar, I want to see Cameron back on track so much and considering the movie is gonna be huge, so it must be for the score as wellwaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!! Where's my nut? arrrghhhhhhh -
- CommentTimeDec 8th 2007
Scores for Cameron films have always their very own aesthetics. Don't expect the score soundling like John Williams! -
- CommentTimeDec 8th 2007
that I don't do, but considering its sci fi I'm expecting something ala Aliens and The Abysswaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!! Where's my nut? arrrghhhhhhh -
- CommentTimeDec 8th 2007
In my book, James Horner scoring AVATAR is THE most exciting project currently on the list of upcoming scores. Horner hasn't done a big sci-fi/fantasy/action epic in years and I think he's brilliant at doing that kind of music. I know he's more into intimate drama and the kind of challenges that kind of films means, but I for one want to hear a big orchestral spectacle from this composer again! -
- CommentTimeDec 8th 2007
I think Horner's last real sci-fi film was Aliens. -
- CommentTimeDec 9th 2007
Avatar is gonna blow everything away, I waited too long for another Cameron movie and this is gonna be so huge, and let James Horner follow that hugeness by bringing us back Aliens splendor and power
Oh yeahwaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!! Where's my nut? arrrghhhhhhh -

It already reminds me of several other Horner scores... (The New World, Casper come to mind). No, it sounds like typical Horner to me, it doesn't do anything for me yet.
Thanx for the MP3, though -

If it's like THE NEW WORLD then i am SO into it.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

From another thread where a Variety ricle appeared:
James Horner recently agreed to a high six-figure payday for his work on Miramax's Holocaust tale "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas."The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else. -

Sounds awfully familiar.
Wow, Willow too? Every time James Horner blatantly rips off a classical piece, somewhere a film music fan dies. The only remedy is for Honer to write something original.
By the way, what is that piece? -
- CommentTimeDec 13th 2007 edited
I've never understood the obsession with this particular piece. It sounds similar but it's miles away from a rip-off. There are hundreds of better examples when one wants to point out references in film music to classical music. -
- CommentTimeDec 13th 2007
It sounds a lot more than similar. I recognized it right away, and I never knew he had influences for Willow.
