Well, that's basically what a shuffle is. It's just that this way iTunes shows you ahead of time what the shuffle playlist is going to look like.

If you want it the "old school" way just go to PARTY SHUFFLE, pick a playlist, make sure both recently played and up coming songs is setat 0 and press play. wink

well I likde it when i didn't know ahead of time and they used to let you do it. it's such a memory hog that i'm over it though, where is the part shuffle thing though

also the old way, wouldnt go through the entire list, it wuold seemingly randomly go to the next song so even if you just played it 5 songs ago it was fair game.

Winamp + Winamp iPod plugin + iPod (4G Photo).
Getting an iPhone from work in a couple of weeks, so don't know what I'll do with it then.
What do you hear? Nothing but the rain...
  1. When I tag a track with album art how does this work?

Is the tag just a link to artwork kept in a specific location? Or is somehow the artwork with the track? And if I were to delete the original artwork file in the specific location, would the artwork associated with the track disappear?

If I'm not mistaken the art work gets embedded into each file.

Just a little warning: don't ever install ZOOM Player because it's total crap. vomit

I installed it and thought if this can play a huge amount of formats it should at least be easy to use... It's not, configuring it is a bitch and when I tried out played my varied set of files, half of them would cause problems, after a week or so I gave up and uninstalled the thing. I'm much more happy using my trusted media players such as Winamp, Windows Media Player and PowerDVD, which are actually a breeze to configure and can already play everything I throw at them. I can't believe I actually payed money to those devs so I could use the Home Premium edition. More like a premium waste of time and money!! crazy

I'm not sure whether to post this here or over at the "what's annoying your currently" but I'm having such a bloody hard time adding album art to my mp3 player.
    crazy
Album art was something that was never automatically gathered during ripping - many CDs didn't have any artwork that came up. I knew that I wouldn't be able to add artwork directly to my player's files and that I would have to add them to the the file on my PC and then swap them onto my player.

I've been tagging tracks all day long - which is good for playing on the PC - but when I transferred some newly-tagged tracks from Cuore Sacro over the artwork was nowhere to be found.

Looking at other forum pages I found an 18-page topic where people were moaning about all the problems of transferring files with artwork over to my brand of player. And solutions ranged from using MediaMonkey, updating WMP 11 to re-formatting the player and starting again. But artwork isn't that important for that last option.

    So, again... crazy

And I can go off to bed feeling a little bit better - a little.

This is why I use iTunes and an iPod. Simple, no fuss.
  3. I use mp3tag (http://www.mp3tag.de/download.html) for embedding the album artworks.

He is mistaken. There is a specific folder that gets referenced by the iTunes program.

Ah yes. That was indeed changed with iTunes 7. But you can still embedded your files if you like. You just need third party software or you can embed the downloaded artwork simply by selecting an album, copy the artwork and paste it back onto the album.

That is true. I didn't fully utilize the album cover feature until Coverflow was in place. And dammit, that's a resource hog. I wish I could go back to iTunes 6 but then I wouldn't be able to use it.

I was just about to recommend this too. An EXCELLENT program. beer
  4. Album artwork is embedded with the tracks using MediaMonkey. Viewed there artwork shows up no problem. And in other players such as Creative MediaSource. Transfer the tracks to the player and the artwork is not visible. Play the tracks from my player via MediaSource and artwork isn't seen.

So, I think that I've tagged the tracks just fine. But there's something that's preventing the player from seeing the artwork?

What player do you have? And how do you sync it?
  5. I have a 60GB Creative Zen Vision:M and I've always just drag-and-dropped files/folders with the Windows Explorer equivalent that opens up when I plug in my player.

I've always shunned automatically syncronising between my PC and player.

I don't know why it's not working then. Try Tag&Rename as that DOES add the artwork TO the music file.

I'm baffled too. And as far as I can tell, most people are baffled too!

I thought that MediaMonkey did tag the artwork within the music file? It's certainly "tagging" when I drag-and-drop the artwork into the album art section of MediaMonkey.

Do the above, for I know that embeds it in the file.

Well, I downloaded Tag&Rename and tried it on a couple of albums. But, still no artwork. God knows what the problem is!

  8. I've managed to work out what was the matter with transferring over album art with tracks to my mp3 player. I couldn't just drag-and-drop the tracks over...I have to synchronise them across. And then delete the original tracks so I don't have duplicates. And for over 5,000 tracks this is going to take a while!

However, it doesn't stop there. After synchronising, some of the tracks are still not displaying the artwork even though it has been carried over. I'm thinking that it's either a resolution problem or some problem with the format of the embedded artwork.

Does anyone know how the artwork is stored tagged in the track? Is it stored as a specific image file format. Anyhow, once I have synchronised over all my tracks I'll see what ones are not showing and then track down THAT problem!!

I think it must embed it into the MP3 file as it doesn't create a separate file for the image.
  9. Anthony: Thanks, I assumed that there's a certain part of the music file that can store the information that forms the artwork rather than have the actual image. Maybe there's a limit to how large the original file is that can be stored as information in the tag.

Steven:Was that a knock at the door? 'Cause I've sent "the boys" round! wink
