Joe Hisaishi is not the only one composer for Ghibli movies! smile

    Yuji Nomi's Official Site (English)

He hasn't written so many film scores, but he scored Studio Ghibli's two features (Whisper Of The Heart and The Cat Returns) and two shorts (Koro's Big Day Out and The Whale Hunt).

I really like Whisper Of The Heart score, which is very beautiful and heartwarming. The movie is very very good as well, and the score supported it perfectly. I only have Image Album (uh, actually I don't own the CD, it's my cousin's tongue ), so I'm going to buy the soundtrack...

  1. Tell me, which composer scored the film of Miyazaki's son? I am pretty damn sure it wasn't Hisaishi...

Tamiya Terashima scored Tales From Earthsea (Ged Senki). I haven't listened to it, but I heard it's a good score... but I also heard the movie was horrible enough to make the original author angry rolleyes

The score of "Tales From Earthsea" is very good. A nice discovery thanks to somebody in this forum. Highly recommended.

I'm so glad you made this topic. I have the soundtrack to The Cat Returns and I love it. I never saw Whisper of the Heart or heard its music. The Cat Returns uses some of the characters from that movie, right?

The Cat Returns is a spin-off movie of Whisper of the Heart. Baron (the cat gentleman... um, gentlecat? biggrin ) is in both movies, so Baron's theme was used again, if I remember correctly. I haven't seen it more than once.

The Cat Returns is a nice little movie, but Whisper of the Heart is much better and profound. Sadly the director passed away quite young...

Tales From Earthsea does have some excellent tracks. I'd also recommend Kurenai No Monsho. Track 2 from this latter score has a lovely strings-based theme.

Miya, would you be willing to provide English translations for Japanese track listings? I have several CDs that I can't find English titles for - and it really annoys me when I have to settle for just "Track 1", "Track 2", etc. Or even worse, I have online translation program translations!!
