Under features everyone can now read my very first article for the website. I'm planning to do one each month surrounding what I saw/heard in my arthouse cinema.

Well, well, well!
A very worthwhile addition indeed!
Nice one, J.! ( <- apparently this icon has changed overnight from a bellicose offensive gesture to one of positive encouragement. I'm far too old to take in the wonder of it all and will just try to take it all in stride. )'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

Just don't listen to the CODE 46 soundtrack before going to see A MIGHTY HEART, that's all I'm saying.A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

CODE 46 is tracked into A MIGHTY HEART. If there is an original score, there's not much of it.A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

Once reviews can be added you'll see some of those very quickly.
My first mission is to translate the terrible reviews I'd written for filmscore.be, including some that one might consider lesser known. -

thanks, I love hearing about the scores from some of the movies with a smaller distribution that I might not otherwise hear about. -

Well;
*Sicko - much existing score in the picture
*My Blueberry Nights - Kar Wai Wong's poetic music has gone missing
*Atonement - good score, but who hasn't written something about this?
*Heimatklänge - features experimental yodellers, no score
*Manufactering dissent - no score
*12 Angry Men - good score, but no worth writing about -

A passage from Joep's review that really resonated with me:
Film music fans are often aware of what person scored a film, before even seeing it. While I was waiting for the Brazilian film Ano em Que Meus Pais SaÃram de Férias (The Year My Parents Went on Vacation) to start rolling, I didn’t have a clue.
And I can see why you wouldn't want to write about ATONEMENT. Arthouse it may be, but the advantage of your column is that you tend not to cover scores many of us already know about. I'd be surprised if anyone found anything new to say in three paragraphs that hadn't already been said.A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

Exactly. Atonement is an example of something that floats somewhere in between arthouse and commercial films. But it's a classic tale that attracts many people. We play those mixtures, pure arthouse flicks and sometimes even pure commercial ones. Nowadays more filmmakers make films that have a bit of both. Even commercial cinemas have 'stolen' a piece of the arthouse pie by sqeezing two titles in their schedule per week. -

I LOVE that Brazilian film, by the way, and did one of my Cinema Club entries on it over at FSM:

Unsurprisingly, there were no responses. Same, really, for my two latest Cinema Club entries, the Iranian AUTOBUS-E SHABANEH (THE NIGHT BUS)...

...and the Chinese MANG SHAN (BLIND MOUNTAIN) :

I guess it's too much to expect a Hollywood-centered board to care about these, but one always hopes. I haven't had the time to read what you've done, Joep, but I appreciate it nonetheless!I am extremely serious. -

Nice. Well giving these sort of things a more central position on a website does seem like a huge advantage above just topics on a board. Did you never consider adding links to all previous pieces in each new one?
I think the more attention you draw towards a different kind of score, the more people will want to try them. So keep on writing them! -

I think on this forum, more than just Hollywood movie reviews are always appreciated. Perhaps later on we can add a movie section... Later though.Kazoo -

Personally, I'd not welcome diversification along those lines. Keep things focused on the music. There's plenty of scope for discussion of the movies on the board. The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -
