    Hi everyone,

    Firstly a big hello to everyone on the forum board. I never used Scorereviews due to constant travelling and time restraints, but read the comments, arguements, debates etc with interest and look forward to hopefully becoming one of the regulars on this forum.

    So my first post:

    What is the most random/bizarre place that you have heard film music being played. Now we are all familiar with theme parks, radio shows etc using snippets and excerpts of film scores; but I was wondering where you have been and thought...'Hang on a darn minute... isn't that... yes that's track 2 from Korngolds SEA HAWK score'

    My random locations:

    1. Queueing to pay for my car parking in a multi level car park in Swansea (Wales)
    2. Starbucks (Heathrow)
    3. An arabian souq (market) in Dubai

    Any other odd ones...
  2. The guys from our local release party of Book 7 had "Hedwig´s Theme" on constant replay. For four hours. I think I´ll go berserk when I have to listen to it in the coming months.

    Hmmm... I'm sure there must be some odd place where my interest suddenly peaked when an unexpected musical piece was heard... but I can't think of any off the top of my head.

    You can frequently listen to some MIKIS THEODORAKIS / STAMATIS SPANOUDAKIS / EVANTHIA REBOUTSIKA stuff onboard the planes of Greek airlines like AEGEAN and OLYMPIC AIRLINES but also the cypriot CYPRUS AIRWAYS! Mostly during the boarding process and it's sooooo kick ass!

    Hi Magician, I've heard your name before.

    I've heard Morricone in odd places. I used to work in a huge department store once, where I brought goods out early in the morning before the store had opened and I heard Morricone's "Once upon a time in America" playing. I never found out who played it. The store once hosted a fashion show, and they used his "Gabriel's oboe" theme as the skinny models were doing their thing. I also once zapped past a fashion show on the telly where they used Morricone's excellent theme from "Private pictures of a lady". Oh, and one time a car drove past me playing Morricone's "Chi mai" really loud.

    Perhaps my obsession with this composer just makes me hear him everywhere.

  6. I can't think of any physical locations at the moment but what did cross my mind was how music is used so inappropriately in TV documentaries.

    One of the curses of being familiar with so much film and TV music is that when documentary makers trawl their CD collections for "appropriate" music, knowing where the music comes from can seem so strange. A couple of examples: Crimson Tide from a recent TV series on buildings of Britain and Meet Joe Black on Countryfile!

    Ubeda was pretty interesting. It seemed most people has some sort of John Williams theme ring tone of their phones. dizzy I remember just sitting through some of the panels and the Star Wars theme would just blare out. tongue

    I have the pleasure of having the morbid occupation of undertaker, and I really can't count the times I heard horrible panflute versions of Morricone or Horner themes in the lounges of various funeral centres... It really breaks my musical heart knowing there is so much good music available and they choose to play these nauseating versions.

    It was! cool

    We went through lots of horrible radio channels trying to find something we were happy with and finally came up with an MOR radio show playing stylish music by the likes of Sinatra, Martin, Andy Williams, Herb Alpert etc when the DJ played TBC.....the original at that cool .....shame he couldn't have topped it off with The Magnificent Seven?

    Through my line of work (I work for an insurance contractor) I was on the phone, on hold, to an insurance company and they had some John Williams (Star Wars and Superman) as hold music. This actually made me sing a long "na, nana, na na.. Super-maaan" and has become a call-audit favorite!

    Also, the other day I was in a tiny little cafe in London and they we're playing some music from Underworld that was used in Sunshine (or at least sounded so similar I thought it was from Sunshine.... there's one track on Underworld's new album that I think is from, or inspired by, said movie).

    For everyone who thinks that film music enthusiasts are usually sad, lonely people generally working in IT, I swear this must be the most diverse forum out there in whatever capacity!

    Professional roadies, morticians, people involved in weird chemical conspiracy thingies, musicians, students, archaelogists...
