Our summer seems to have been bypassed and gone straight to autumn. The people in the know keep talking about the jet stream being unusually south of where it should be so that all the weather systems are passing over us instead of to the north of the UK.

Same here. Rain and rain and overcast with only brief glimpses of sunny and summery weather. It's been like that for weeks now, causing flood damage throughout the country.

This afternoon I was driving with my Mini Clubman to the exam centre, and it was absolutely pouring with rain. Something I've never seen before and driving the car was dodgy. I often couldn't see enough through the window because of the huge loads of water, as if it was just thrown over and around my car with buckets. Big trucks, other drivers that don't respect distances in such weather, ...

It was a drive full of stress. It got worse on the way back, lucky that I passed because I was much more relaxed. I'm completely tired now.

  3. We had a similar experience on the way to Scotland on Sunday. On the motorway the rain was so heavy the wipers could not cope. And anyway, the volume of water meant that visibility was poor. No way to see road lanes so I just had to follow the lights from the car in front - and hope they were doing the same!

We've been blessed with rather cool weather at least so far. Living on the 12th floor and facing west is a bonus for me. Facing west means an ocean breeze.

Damn, a lightning bolt far away just turned off all my electronic equipment for a second, before they came back on.

    Strange.

There is no rain or thunder. Just that single lightning strike.
