- Comment Working through Avengers Endgame (Silvestri) and enjoying it so far, but just looked at the length - it's nearly 2 hours long!! Don't remember the last time someone released that long of an album that wasn't a deluxe edition or something similar.

- discussion topic Bad Movies You Were Fooled Into Seeing by Great Trailer Music
- Comment
Thor wrote Can't say that I have, no. I'm generally not that into trailers, nor trailer music. But there have been instances where the film has not lived up to the promises in the trailer, of course. Like GODZILLA from a few years ago, for example. Now, the film DID turn out very good ...

- Comment
Thor wrote Well, I don't intend it that way. One has the opinions that one has, whether they happen to be majority or minority views. That being said, ALIEN 3 is fairly highly regarded among critics -- far more so now, anyway, than when it premiered. So the minority view, in this ...

- Comment
Thor wrote In fact, I still consider it David Fincher's best film (even if he himself disowns it), and that's saying something given his subsequent works. One of the very best films of the 90s.
I always get a kick out of your opinions, they're like the very opposite of ...

- Comment
Thor wrote
LSH wrote He has that Tolkien biopic coming up pretty soon. I imagine that should be better. In theory, anyway.
I doubt it. I expect another SAVING MR. BANKS.
I also read recently that Sam Mendes has a First World War epic in the works, titled ...

- Comment DUMBO (Danny Elfman) Very run of the mill for me. Elfman just never seems to be able to grab my attention, especially not recently. THE HIGHWAYMEN (Thomas Newman) This is hilariously listed on Spotify as from 1937 (probably because of the Benny Goodman song on it), which explains ...

- Comment
FalkirkBairn wrote Watching GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY for the first time. An hour in and it's just so boring!
Personally find those movies boring as well. Enjoyed Thor Ragnorok a lot more, very silly fun.

- Comment The Kid Who Would Be King Midway through this one by Electric Wave Bureau and it's really enjoyable. Will probably end up in my favourites for the year. Edit: Oh yes, this is great. If you like adventure scores, remotely enjoy synthcrestral music (no idea if that's a thing, just made it ...

- Comment Didn't love the film, but now listening to the score back a few times I really love it. John Powell's choral stuff is just fantastic, and I think this is just as good as the other two scores, minus maybe some standalone cues.

- Comment Not big on lists anymore, but surprised to see so many not keen on Black Panther. Personally one of the best of the year for me, so much fun and had some ripper emotional cues. Do the hip-hop elements ruin the score for anyone? If you haven't revisited it and want a few tracks to try again: ...

- Comment
Thomas Glorieux wrote How to Train your Dragon 3 Thoroughly enjoyed this. Yes it was once again a bit too comical with the side characters doing kiddie jokes (just like in the second), but I could forgive that. Because Toothless' scene with the new dragon was downright ...

- Comment
Edmund Meinerts wrote I'd love if Powell gets another shot, but I also kinda like the idea of Star Wars being a musical playground in which lots of composers get to play. I wouldn't want anyone, even someone as good as Powell, becoming the franchise "house composer". ...

- Comment BUMBLEBEE - Dario Marianelli Strange score. I was really looking forward to it, based on the strength of DM's work with the director Travis Knight - Kubo and the Two Strings, which was fantastic. I loved the Darkest Hour last year as well. But this feels a tad too mechanical. And so many different ...

- Comment I'm really excited for Ludwig, loved Black Panther and Creed, and his work for Community was great at points too. I think he's a very intelligent composer, and his best work is still ahead. Hope they get Powell back for something at some point, Solo was thumping good adventure stuff.

- Comment
The Book Thief is an absolutely excellent score... The opening track "One Small Fact" was one of the best cues of the year. When the strings enter I get goosebumps.
Glad someone else shares my love for this one.

- Comment
Thor wrote Well, in terms of Williams, he hasn't done a truly great 'wow' score since 2005, IMO (WAR HORSE probably comes closest, but even that is lacking). Something "happened" with him in the break from film music between 2005 and 2008, and he hasn't really been himself ...

- Comment I'd forgotten about a few of those to be fair - liked Don't Worry and Tulip Fever. I think often composers do get to a certain age where they are past their prime and the music they write is either extremely derivative of their old work or is fairly boring and unmemorable, often utilising modern ...
