- Comment Roman J. Israel, Esq. is a terribly skippable score. 2 stars out of 5. Nothing I want to ever listen to again. The Shape of Water - Alexandre Desplat A solid 3 star score, nothing special but pretty good nonetheless, maybe even his best score this year, but I have a feeling Valerian ...

- Comment Paprika - Susumu Hirasawa Saw a critic at Indiewire mention this as one of the finest scores of this century so far and I don't get it. It works well in the film but aside from two catchy cues or so it is nothing special. Hirasawa's score to Millenium Actress is stronger as a whole.

- Comment Going on a Newman binge. Bridge of Spies - Thomas Newman It is pretty good, but nothing special. Finding Dory - Thomas Newman Meh, the first one is better. - Comment The weakest film music year of the millenium continues... Justice League - Danny Elfman Utterly mediocre. Elfman is now officially one of the most overrated film composers, though not as overrated as Giacchino and most of Remote Control, but after them it is Elfman. Paddington 2 - ...

- Comment Dunkirk - Hans Zimmer Hm, it is pretty mediocre save for a few bright spots. Is this the weakest Zimmer/Nolan score to date? I think it is. It is 2.5 stars for me. My ranking of the Nolan/Zimmer collaboration from strongest to weakest score: 1. Inception 2. Interstellar 3. The Dark Knight ...

- Comment Warcraft - Ramin Djawadi Mediocre, but it has at least one good highlight cue that ranks among the best things he has ever done. Honor is the best cue in here. That one and the Main Title will be the only two tracks I am keeping from this one.

- Comment Brimstone - Junkie XL Yeah, this is dull as dishwater - mostly generic ambience and generic Barberian string writing that is pretending to be great when it is the opposite of that, urgh so jarring, cheesy and tasteless. The most cheesy thing I have heard since Michael Giacchino's Rogue One ...

- Comment
Bregt wroteHmm. It failed for me. Not so interesting as a standalone listen, but I'm sure it pushes all the right buttons in the movie that seems to be the big Oscar candidate. It's very light but also very anonymous. I mean, the piano melody could come from a romantic comedy. Only ...

- Comment Hidden Figures - Hans Zimmer, Benjamin Wallfisch and Pharrell Williams It is pretty good. It barely earns 3 stars. Annoying wordless choir though, but still pretty cool at times. This is mainly a Wallfisch score, Zimmer did not do much in here which is why he removed his name from the ...

- Comment Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them - James Newton Howard I am struggling to connect with this one. It is good, but I certainly don't get the "hype" for it. - Comment Alice Though the Looking Glass - Danny Elfman First listen. It is pretty nice (and far better than the annoying, bland and forgettable Goosebumps score). - Comment What a Wonderful Family! - Joe Hisaishi His first score in almost 2 years and it isn't anything special at all. It is a decent comedy score, no more no less. - Comment Eddie the Eagle - Matthew Margeson One of the best scores of the year thus far (top 20 at least) but by no means a masterpiece or anything like that. I largely agree with Southall's review. ...
