- Comment Here's a film music-related fact...... Isaac Hayes wasn't originally meant to write the music for Shaft: he actually auditioned for the title role, but lost out to Richard Rowntree. But the producers ofered him the writing gig instead.

- Comment I was visiting friends in Brescia - home of the Baretta arms company - in North East Italy. We were walking through the streets when we came across a busker playing panpipes (I kid you not). He did a passable rendition of Morricone's Main Titles to The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.

- Comment Received Barry's Somewhere In Time last week. Although there aren't many cues on the CD, it's beautiful stuff. By the way, The Lion In Winter is Barry's own personal favourite. He visits Yorkshire fairly regularly to see family, so if you want to impress him talk about that and NOT ...

- Comment I love the physicality of CDs, in the same way that I love owning books. It's hard to explain if you're a lover of downloads, but it's nice to look at them - and read the liner notes - even if I don't play them. And that applies to all of my music, not just film music.

- Comment A Little Romance was delivered yesterday. The liner notes freely acknowledge that Delarue used Vivaldi for the "love theme" cues. I'm assuming that he used the piece - rather than writing his own love theme - because Vivaldi was born in Venice, and the love story of the film ...
