- Comment I've never been able to enjoy McKenzie for that very reason. It's difficult to explain, but for me it's like the music tells you what to feel rather than affecting how you feel (a bit like comparing McKenzie to Horner). I'm sure it does move many listeners, but not me.

- Comment I was in Norway last summer, and it was like being in a tropical country. It was insane. Weirdly enough I've never actually seen it snow (properly) in Norway despite being there quite a few times. :dizzy:

- Comment Comrade Detective Joe Kraemer For those of us disappointed that he didn't return to Mission Impossible 6 (and if you weren't, what's wrong with you?), this recent release of a 2017 TV series is a welcome surprise. It's very similiar to his Rogue Nation score, almost quoting ...

- Comment I enjoyed it on a schlock level. It's dumb, over-the-top, doesn't make any sense, and it's pretty bad... but it's good bad. There are dinosaurs killng and helping people. Giacchino's score is brilliant, far outshining the film.

- Comment
Ralph Kruhm wrote Howard fits best, if he manages to keep the thematic material intact (and wants to do that), although I've always preferred his more subtle stuff to his bombast, and I'm afraid he'd feel inclined to use the latter for something as big as Avatar. But if he gets more ...

- Comment I think James Newton Howard would be the ideal choice. His style, a mix of ethno, synths and traditional, is well suited to the world of Avatar. (Parts of Avatar even sound JNH-esque.) The next best choice would be John Powell.

- Comment His score for The Black Dahlia is one of my favourite scores ever, but I've never heard anything else by him I like as much. Eight Below is a decent score, but The Black Dahlia is on a whole different level. The recording is also superb, the trumpet sounds incredible.

- Comment Well, no one's saying film can't subvert from established tradition, clearly they do. Like I said, rules are there to be broken. But there's a reason tradition is tradition, where the films you've exampled, films I would describe as art pieces rather than "movies" (or artistic nonsense if ...

- Comment We're at risk at talking past each other again. But here goes... I'm really talking about basic level stuff here. Those films still have a narrative, however loose or insignificant they may be. As you say, the story may not be the selling point of a film (clearly this is the case with most ...

- Comment
Thor wrote After all, film is an audiovisual medium. If storytelling was all there is, we would be reading books instead.
Completely agree. - Comment It's not bad, probably my favourite of the Disney Star Wars films... but that isn't saying much.
