  • About

Soundtrack producer, owner of MovieScore Media (http://www.moviescoremedia.com) and the editor of Upcoming Film Scores (http://www.upcomingfilmscores.com). A former film music critic, I was a member of the Music from the Movies (http://www.musicfromthemovies.com) staff for over ten years, where I also conducted more than 100 film composer interviews. Furthermore, I have been a film music consultant employed by symphony orchestras and concert halls, and lectured on film music at the Gothenburg University. As a journalist, I have been a regular contributor of articles and interviews for Swedish classical music magazine, Opus, and currently writes programme notes for the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra.

I am also a composer of concert music (primarily choral music) and wrote music for Swedish television (check out my music at http://www.moviescoremedia.com/mikaelcarlsson/). I am a member of two chamber choirs (tenor). I live outside Gothenburg, Sweden, with my wife and son.

I have been a film music fan since the age of 15 and an avid collector ever since. Among my favourite composers are Jerry Goldsmith, Alex North, Leonard Rosenman, Franz Waxman, Bernard Herrmann, John Williams, Elliot Goldenthal, Christopher Young, Marco Beltrami, James Horner, Alan Silvestri, Bruce Broughton, Don Davis, Dario Marianelli, Laura Karpman, Michael Kamen, Joel McNeely... I listen a lot to classical music, primarily contemporary concert music, and my big heroes are John Corigliano, Eric Whitacre, Karol Szymanowski, Arvo Pärt, Witold Lutoslawski, John Adams, Morten Lauridsen, Edgard Varese, Olivier Messiaen, Igor Stravinsky, Bohuslav Martinu, Maurice Ravel, and many more...

I live outside of Gothenburg, Sweden, with my wife and one-year old boy, Elmer (no, he is not named after mr Bernstein!)
