2 Days in the Valley

It's funny, I just listened to The River Wild and explained how a great composer such as Maurice Jarre got replaced, and here is the composer who was replacing him getting the same royal treatment. I can't say if 2 Days in the Valley was worth throwing out. For that I would have to hear the effort of Anthony Marinelli. But this score is pretty much typical Goldsmith. A little less interesting from time to time, but still having the undeniable feeling you're listening to a Goldsmith score. The Basic Instinct influences ("Teddy and Audrey") and the more European influences does make it occassionally easy to listen to. At the other end, there's some filler stuff too, so you will get lost and found (probably in the same track). But if this was worth rejecting I don't really know. It might not be the best, but it has a lovely main theme for strings and saxophone ("Theme from "2 Days in the Valley" and "Toupee or Not Toupee / End Credits") and various okay cues. It's not a total snooze fest, and any score that can conjure up Basic Instinct tracks will probably be watching the lovely Charlize Theron doing her thing like she's doing it on the cover of this soundtrack. For Goldsmith completists who want to have everything the man did in his life.
