Ant-Man
Christophe Beck
" The summer of the ants "Written by Thomas Glorieux - Review of the regular release
Ant-Man is one of the many Marvel super-heroes that grace the screen every once and a while. And as most hero movies, it amused the public immensely. Christophe Beck was amused by the idea too, delivering a score that caught many people's attention and interest. It's safe to say that it's a fun score, though some will like it more than others. I'm not overtly crazy about it. The theme is the catch of the album, opening the score insanely enough in "Theme from Ant-Man" and appearing in lots of variations and disguises throughout the score. Perhaps even too much to keep it powerful and catchy enough after a while.
The action music itself is powerful, rhythmic and full of energy. But despite the theme making an impact during it, it lacks something. And the sneaking around music brings memories of Tower Heist, one of Beck's earlier scores. A cool little (necessary) hint is delivered in "First Mission", briefly stating The Avengers theme. And even though there's a small dramatic conclusion in "Small Sacrifice", the end is not particularly impressive. It lacks the punch a score like this ought to have. Just like the score. Whatever it builds to, Ant-Man somehow can't reach it. Perhaps a reason why the tracks are sometimes too short for their own good. Once again, I'm enjoying this. But not just as much as others have been. Then I put my money on other summer blockbusters who go just a little further. Good score, though lacking the finishing touch. Perhaps they should have placed the main theme at the end?
The theme is a winner, and one that sounds too cool for its own good.
Lacks variation and perhaps it too darn long.
