ARC Raiders is a 2025 futuristic, adventurous, third-person extraction shooter developed by Swedish game developer Embark. The whole concept is by no means new but thrives on everything in its design and atmosphere.

Johan Söderqvist and Patrik Andrén's scores for the universe of video games began with music for Battlefield 1 and Battlefield V, incorporating their usual approach – unique sounds and atmosphere above all, but with an air of the clichés that dominate general scoring. And yet, with the main games and supplementary expansions, there was still enough to endorse.

Their music for the ARC Raiders main game is a throwback to older analogue synthesisers, vintage arpeggios, minimalistic sounds, modular ventures, and an overall atmospheric sound design approach, but with a touch of connecting this to the modern day and age. There is a quality, a sense of wide desolate exploration and adventure to the music that captures a very personal perspective as you progress in the game, combining atmosphere, more reserved mechanical musical mechanism and personal feelings.

The original soundtrack release integrates layers of dialogue and sounds, adding to the experience, resembling the unavoidable Blade Runner score by Vangelis. It marks a rare occassion in which a welĺ-curated album unifies music, dialogue and effects so well.

Arc Raiders' full score, as in experiencing it in the game and as a separate listening experience, is edifying, but there is still a level of genericness, especially in the elements of today's musical world, similar to the composers' Battlefield games. Still, the comprehensive vestige and warmth of the synthesiser crafting a desolate neo noir atmosphere are commendable.

Expansion River Tides (2026)
As games often provide future expansions, so does ARC Raiders in 2026. There are a few small
differences, especially in the rock anthem presented with electric guitar and voices, called Bon Voyage, on the digital release. Further along there are still some modulations and more that are not entirely perfect, but the emotions and ambience are still appropriate.
