Cobra Kai was delivering all the knock outs and challenges in a final 6th season, and Netflix made sure we we're gonna wait for it. In a 3 series part, Netflix decided to let fans wait for the end by delivering each 5 episodes every couple of months, making sure the 5th episode ended with a cliffhanger. Have to say, it worked and the 6th season was a triumph from start to finish. The duo who made sure it all ended with a bang are the composers who have given me a thrill ride from start to finish. Each season had amazing moments and various down to earth knock outs, and you can bet season 6 wouldn't disappoint. We begin with a slow burner, but an 80's burner nonetheless in "Heart of the Cobra", followed by a wonderful Miyagi Do statement, upbeat and exciting. Kreese's roll in this first part is played in Japan, and safe to say his music houses some ethnic moments, though not very interesting. Then the cool moments are more in "Quality, Not Quantity" and "Karate Call to Arms", the Kwon motif sets its first mark in "Rise of Kwon", a lovely moment of Miyagi heritage is left for opening "Miyagi's Box".
The first 5 episodes all center around the 6 lucky few who will represent Miyagi Do at the Sekai Taikai, and it means battles will have to be fought. "Capture the Flag" with its energetic racing quality for instance, but the real quality comes for the battle of the captains. First the guys Miguel and Robby, giving it all they got in "Battle of Brothers". And the 2 get the musical accompaniment they deserve. It's a high adrenaline mix of rocking music and no nonsense fight music, always accessible and always a rhythmic delight. But then "Girl's Captain" is more bad-ass, a more frenetic attack on the senses with a returning rhythm that was used in the second season at the beginning of the school fight, which also underscored Tory's driven rage back then. The cliffhanger comes in "Let The Games Begin", we have cool guitar riffs, the menacing Cobra Kai intro introducing Kwon's sound again and a choral climax for the surprising fighter joining them. All in all, a pleasing end for a first part. Like the season, the Cobra Kai: Season 6 Part 1 is good but lacks the punch the latter episodes will bring. But it definitely is to the point and pleasing all around.
Themes return in all kinds of shapes, ready to give us a kick here and there.
Something we haven't heard a lot, choir. And they keep it for the cliffhanger in the first part.
The 2 fights between the captains are pleasing and downright to the death.
The ethnic moments covering Kreese's fight are not very interesting.
A lot of short tracks, doesn't always help for development.
