I Sopravvissuti della Città Morta (The Ark of the Sun God, 1984) is an Italian action adventure film directed by Antonio Margheriti. It precedes another semi-Indiana Jones inspired low-budget film - I Cacciatori del Cobra d'Oro - by the same director, and includes some of the same cast and crew. Yet, in these archetypical Italian films, there are often a few noteworthy elements, such as another wonderful (Marghetti trademark) maquette car chase scene.
Aldo Tamborelli, credited as GHEIN on this film - one of his many aliases... J. Laser, Jimmy Tamborrelli, Morfina Obmat and Tamborelli - wrote the original score. In my native tongue, Ghein (freely) translates as a joke, which is ironic.
The overall economical making of this film is noteworthy, but despite the adventurous source material, the overall film is still merely mediocre. In line with low-budget, Tamborelli' score presents unsurprisingly poor and uninspired synthesizer music. While the score is heavily rooted in a different period in which synthesizer trends in film music began to gain popularity, those who could write good music with the synthesizer standards of the time were very rare. The music by Ghein shows all signs of a non-composer in using repetitive phrases, basic, uninspiring synthesized tools and no relevance or function in the film.
In addition to the original score, the film includes tracked-in score from an unknown title, which is orchestral and highly divergent from the composer's original work, marking a stark contrast.
Coinciding with an outdated synthesizer scores, I do feel any label dedicated to enhance the library of film music is helpful. Contrarily, it is doubtfull anyone would show any interest in this particular score.
