Lesbian Vampire Killers

Debbie Wiseman

" Funny enough movie gives us astounding score "

Written by Thomas Glorieux - Review of the regular release

It looks so corny, but is there anything more exciting than pairing lesbian chicks with the idea that they might be vampires? I guess for a teenager with raging hormones there is not. Still this was made into a feature film product where 2 lads must help a vicar and a virgin to get rid of vampires, while being lesbian active at the same time. This somewhat insane package came to the hands of female composer Debbie Wiseman. She is known as the composer for the crowd pleaser Arsène Lupin, the respected Warriors and the television waterpark movie The Flood. Now who would have thought this score would turn out to become this year's biggest surprise yet?

Lesbian Vampire Killers is like mixing Bram Stoker's Dracula with her own Arsène Lupin. Yes it is that big. Religiously overblown, big and exciting, LVK is Wiseman's answer to the low quality of today's filmmusic. And her main idea is already presented from the first track.

In "Centuries Ago" her main theme gets a big bombastic encore when solo vocal is supported by big choir and an orchestral crescendo. This big orchestral awe reaction is somewhat put on hold during the next tracks. "Adventure" begins magical enough with a Horner inspired opening but goes subtle and comedic in the latter part. The same for the main theme with mysterious solo vocal during "At the Old Mircalla Cottage".

However from "Have you Been Hanging Out With Vicars?" the awe is back when a menacing choral opening ignites the threatening lesbianism. The same for the propulsive ending "I Know Something Really Wrong is Happening Here, But is There any Chance we Can just Ignore It?" which is just too good.

By this the epic action voice of Wiseman is back on track. It fuels the excitement in "Vampires, Lesbian Vampires", "Full on Lesbian Vampire Attack", the raging end of "All Grown Up" and "The Crypt of Carmilla" with a variation on the heroic theme intertwining with the astounding big version of the main theme, the propulsive delights of "Carmilla, the Vampire Queen" and the delightful string work of "Whores of Fucking Hades, Prepare for Fucking Death".

There are pauses from this exciting demonic girl on girl action, such as "You're a Virgin" but even this is pumped up by an exciting heroic moment near the end. The creepy strings during "Give me One Last Kiss" is interrupted by a comedic influence in "My AXE Girlfriend" and the romance is so cute in "Jimmy, I Love You", you can't help but smile.

But if there are several tracks that show just how good Wiseman really is, it is in the following. "The Dawn of the Red Moon" is nothing but an astounding menacing piece where her main theme gets a never before felt meaning through scary choir and demonic orchestral foreplay. And in "Lesbian Vampire Killers" the final touch is for the resolving main theme version that gives it an ending not many scores receive today. It is simply put magnificent.

Whoever thought this would become the surprise of the year so far raise your hands. Lesbian Vampire Killers reassures my faith that at least some scores per year raise the level to a satisfying wonderful height. And it is a woman that reassures us from that. During all the mediocrity, Debbie Wiseman brings us a bombastic and thematic orchestral ride that is easily put, one of the finest of the year so far. Lesbians may be hot, but Lesbian Vampire Killers is smoking hot.
