Samantha

" Joel McNeely guides Samantha in her search "

Written by Thomas Glorieux - Review of the regular release

Samantha is a schizophrenic experience. Apparently the character goes through all kinds of emotional phases and identities when she desperately tries to find her real birth-parents. And the music somewhat reflects on that identity crisis. It's really upbeat, really frenetic and very comedy based. Especially in the begin this can caught you off guard. McNeely's tones perhaps reflect perfectly the scenes on screen, it's still something of a thing to accept and digest it. In the beginning I had various issues with this, after a while the orchestral big sound and scherzo's begin to adapt to an overall acceptable level. Even the classical pieces help in settling you down. In fact they often come over as the better deal. Samantha is not your score to have, especially if you don't favor sharp violin music, wacky comedy music in various spaces, and not your full blown out orchestral music. No Samantha is more for the completist and the people who have actually seen the film. In that case you know what to expect, and what to get out of this score.

Score probably sums the picture up perfectly with its wacky orchestral "classical" music.
The "End Credits" piece is the only thing you really need of the score, a perfect summarization.
Not for everyone, and definitely not for the person who was expecting a romantic comedy score at first.
