  1. Tom: The Holst piece is one of the top 10 in the 20th century of all time.

Franz: Guys. This is not about Holst.

Tom: I'm sure that in composition/arranging/orchestrating the Holst work is studied in detail.

    Franz: crazy

Tom: We can all say that the Holst piece certainly put his name to the front of 20th century classical music.

I prefer Jupiter, although Mars is a close second for me.

I absolutely adore Neptune, listening to that my mind just drifts into the outer reaches of the universe ( with no comprehension whatsoever wink ) , probably THE greatest piece of atmospheric music ever IMO and certainly incredibly influential albeit in a far subtler way than the other pieces.

James Horner does a lovely referrence to 'Neptune' in the track Docking on the APOLLO 13 promo.

I listened to the first few tracks of Firebird yesterday, and I recognised something from somewhere from someplace. But that's all I've got as yet.

Firebird is about as melodic as Stravinsky can get and likely his most accessible piece.

    Previn
    Ormandy

That's off the top of my head Tom.

Dutoit and Karajan are best IMO.
