Great news! I hope this is the rebirth of his film music career.

Well, Mann always came back to using that Steel Cello Lament from Heat, which he obviously loved, so he was bound to ask Goldenthal again as soon as he was available again.
  1. The Lord is good! Blessed be the name of the Lord!
A butterfly thinks therefore I am
  2. And I think that compared to some projects, Mann was generous with using Goldenthal's score for heat, incidentally one of his best efforts.

    Me too!

Very welcome in an era of mind blowing mediocrity.

Awesome! Hopefully, like Steven said, this will open the door for many more new Goldenthal scores.

I'm actually looking forward to Public Enemies, both film and score-wise.

Plus, Public Enemies doesn't seem to be the sort of film Mann would stick a lot of songs in, particularly that it's not a contemporary film like Miami Vice and Collateral.

Shame it's not some big sci-fi or fantasy adventure!?

Goldenthal would be one of my top choices for a new Conan film.

It has; FINAL FANTASY : THE SPIRITS WITHIN. Play it loud , now. cool
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  3. In the words of Jean Luc Picard: MAKE IT SO.

I wonder if Taymor's version will be more or less tame than Greenaway's off-the-wall PROSPERO'S BOOKS (fine score by Nyman).

Pretty much. I always consider Goldenthal's music as one of the greatest gifts modern film music had the fortune to be blessed with.

  5. Yes, that's true. He's so wonderfully creative and has a lot of distance to his work for film (his track titles are really amazing at times biggrin )

I think that's fair enough Kevin. Sure, I don't understand it because I love Goldenthal's work but on a similar note I've never connected to Gustav Mahler despite my love for classical music, very blasphemous in classical circles when you consider what a colossus Mahler is.

What always stood out with Goldenthal for me, was no two scores ever sounded the same, or his ability to come up with original material each time. Sure he has his style, but never have I heard him write something that was totally ripped from something else.

But I understand not all people dig his style. He can sound very inaccessible at times.

  7. "Public Enemies" should record soon.

Important news and although it has been previously hinted, the official assignment is probably skipped by most of us, as it's in the upcoming scores thread i suppose?

    Elliot Goldenthal: The Tempest

Elliot Goldenthal will write the music for Julie Taymor's The Tempest, based on the famous Shakespeare play. This will be the fourth feature film project for the married couple, following Titus, Frida (which earned Goldenthal an Academy Award) and last year's Across the Universe.
