  1. "Don't Go Off Wandering" - Limp Bizkit

There is something about this band's style that I love. The rest of the genre I can happily leave alone.

  2. "Kiss From A Rose" - Seal

This guy has such a great voice. Wasn't this song used on a film?

  3. Yes, Batman Forever.

  4. "Not The Sun" - Brand New

Not too familiar with one. I came across the band after my son played another of their songs at drum lessons.

    A good old band sound!

  6. "Main Title (Quiero La Noche)" - Marvin Hamlisch

Another "cross-over" track: from the movie Bananas, I just love it.

  7. Last one tonight...

    "Now You're Gone" - Black

I would be surprised if anyone has heard of this guy. From the 1980s again. Quite a distinctive voice, this one is not one of his best though.

  8. I just had to do one more:

"Safe and Sound" - Electric President

A great-sounding, toe-tapping track. Sometimes that is all I want.

On balance, a better mix than last night? wink

    "Private Investigations" - Dire Straits

I think that this must be my favourite track from them. I am not so bothered about the vocals but the instrumentals are just great. Not conforming to the traditional song format and the sadness feel to it just strikes a chord.

Yeah, it's an excellent track from their best album LOVE OVER GOLD. Dire Straits used to be one of my favourite bands as a kid and teen, but not so much anymore. Still, that particular album holds up very well.

Otherwise, your selections aren't really my cup of tea, for the most part. But definitely varied, which I like. smile

  9. I quite enjoy listing these.

I gives people an idea of me (indirectly of course) from before I really got really involved in film music.

Listening to some later tracks, I am glad i stopped posting when I did!

All told, there are about 1,600 tracks that would class as significant to me.

  10. I'm not sure if it is the drink talking but I am listening to my favourite non-film music "pop" tracks and I am seeing my life to date pass in front of me. Maybe it is because it is favourite tracks and not albums, therefore they tend to have meaning associated with them, but I am being quite affected by the experience.

I don't think that this would happen with my film music tracks. Maybe too linked with the film in most cases?

    Don't fret too much, Tom!

Most of the stuff is UK-centric and from the 1970s/1980s. And most people would point out that it's not too good either! Surely you've come across the John Travolta number out of Grease?

    Grease I'm familiar with

NP : STARS END - David Bedford

Wonderful stuff, very cosmic! Full power of the Royal Philharmonic orchestra conducted by Vernon Handley and features Mike Oldfield on electric and bass guitar, this really is something else.

I should expand a little bit. I liked what the two pianos could do with the work. But then I liked Tomita and what he did with the work also. Just a different take.

NP : TOSCA - Giacomo Puccini

I'm sure Opera buffs would be horrified at me for skipping tracks just to play my favourites, but truth be told I just can't take much of it. The music in this is phenomenal and I'm particularly partial to the magnificent 'Te Deum' that James Bond fans would note was used prominently in QUANTUM OF SOLACE.

    I'm with ya.

I can take opera in smaller doses, but I don't think I've ever been able to stick around for an entire Wagner opera, for example.

Wagner is like having a big delicious and very filling steak dinner and then finding out that there are another two big delicious steak dinners to eat and you just have to say "no thanks, I'm already bloated".

    NP: GREATEST HITS (Goblin)

Not sure if I were to put it here or in the regular thread, as it also includes a few film pieces. Cool instrumental prog rock with extreme cult following among horror buffs. Not everything is great, though.

My second listen in two days. An awesome avant guarde work performed by the Royal Philharmonic orchestra conducted by Vernon Handley and featuring Mike Oldfield on guitar and bass guitar loved by ( Me ) and derided as "artsy fartsy" by ( Martijn and Steven ) tongue

    Thor wave

Besides Mike Oldfield, David Bedford has done orchestrations for a number of artists and bands including Roy Harper, Camel, Madness and Frankie Goes To Hollywood amongst many others ( superb arrangements on Welcome To The Pleasuredome ), all of these I am well aware of but looking on wikipedia ( a source I do not take as gospel ) it says he's also done orchestrating for a~ha? I know a~ha have had tracks augmented with orchestra but I didn't know this, do you know whether this is a fact? Perhaps you could look in some appropriate album credits?

Yeah, you could just as easily have put this in the other thread. I'm not really taken with Goblin, some of what I've heard is okay but I've never bought any, I have some on CDR and haven't played it since.

Reinhold Gliere is a composer I'm not familiar with at all, I know he taught a very young Prokofiev and that's about it, I want to discover this composer.

That's a gorgeous song, I love it! I also love the U2 song 'Kiss Me, Kill Me, Thrill Me' which also appeared in Batman Forever, I think it would have made a great James Bond song, better, IMO, than Goldeneye.
