As a teacher of young children who understands how a child’s self esteem is intricately connectected to your reactions to his/her art expressions I find this both disturbing and distasteful. I hope the children never saw the results.

Yes, I've seen those too! I really like the concept.
And about that comment... argh, some people take things too seriously.
I mean, if you really take this literally, it doesn't even make sense. If children could paint realistically, it would never look like that, because then, well, their painings would look more realistically!
This is of course about appreciating excactly that childlike way of expressing things. About using their lack of knowledge of proportion what makes it look child like but still using the image of their fantasies. I think the results are really cool. -
