  1. I've now heard THE INFORMANT!, and I must include it among the better scores of the year.
One thing however about this album fell absolutely flat, and that is the song. 'Trust Me' has a laziness to it - probably the lyrics and performance mostly - that the rest of the album fantastically avoids.

MARCO POLO, on the other hand, has moments but is not great by any means.

If you're not planning to get banned once and for all and crawl up to Bregt, begging to be unbanned again (which won't happen), i suggest you watch your language.

  2. Glass has recorded three film scores, to film that will opening soon. He's not gone yet.

Of course, i will watch my language, Demetris. In fact, i don't like to use this kind of third rated language over here. But what to do? you made me to do so. I believe that was quite unnecessary to comment upon me whether i will be banned or not in FSM. In fact, that's not your headache. Somehow, you are just provoking me. I have well experienced in two different kind of forums. I know what to do or what not to do. As a moderator, you have all rights to monitor me and even warn me if i break the rules of this forum. But I personally think you don't have any rights to comment upon me. So, please stop bullying me.

    Yes. Indeed.

    2009.

    For me:

    FAVOURITE SCORES:

    HOME - Armand Amar
I kept listening to this one for a long time. It has all his style elements and while some tracks may be insired a lot by his other more exotic scores, it's one strong score full of captivating tracks (the 'Home' suite), lots of anger ('Black Gold', 'Overproduction') and sadness ('Whales', the 'Epi').

    BSG 4 - Bear McCreary

Again, some of the tracks are the high lightsof the year. Not just the classical oriented ones, but tracks like the 'Line', 'Diaspora', the last couple ones, the ones I forget right now and of course 'Kara Remembers'. She so fucking does!

CHÉRI and COCO AVANT CHANEL - Alexandre Desplat

New Moon didn't do it as much for me as those two. Seeing some tracks of these scores live, was exceptional!

    MOST OVERRATED SCORE

    UP - Michael Giacchino

I never warmed up for this one. It didn't take me to higher levels nor did it raise any hairs on my arm. It all sounds lovely, but in the end it leaves me rather cold.

BEST RE-RELEASE NO ONE SEEMS TO TALK ABOUT

LE VOYAGE EN BALLON - Jean Prodromidès

This score is so exciting. What a revelation! There's some fantastic music in here, all surrounded by two really good themes, one of which is a big, grand waltz. What I so like about this score, is it's old, French feel. Really takes you back, brings joy and real adventure. And it doesn't last 74 minutes, but a good 35 minutes or so i think. Exceptional, but forgotten/never mentioned. A review by Joep is on the front page.

    DISCOVERIES OF THE YEAR

Scores that I revisited and fell in love with, or found out that I should have heard them before.

    MAGNOLIA - Jon Brion

Sure, there's the TTRL rip-off (but what a rip-off it is!), but there's some very driving and long tracks in there that I really like. Good music to listen to during travelling (it makes it go quicker) or doing something unnerving. Makes it exciting. wink

DANCES WITH WOLVES - John Barry

Oooh. I hadn't told this yet. I'm still ashamed. shame Sorry Timmer and James.

That's it for now. I haven't heard the recent scores (Baaria, Mao Dancing, Single Man, ...) that seem to gather a lot of praise, so i'll return. (if that would be interesting to anyone though wink )

Ah, you can't believe how refreshing it is to read a statement and opinion like that! Thumbs way up for that. kiss

I like that phrase too Michael! You know how to put some things! Also, thanks again for your interesting views, info and 'theory' on certain scores last year, and the focus on not so obvious one! Continue doing so!

Scores from 2009 films or soundtrack releases in 2009 (including reissues and stuff)?

    Does anyone have a list?
    I am extremely serious.
  4. Bregt - some great picks there, particularly LE VOYAGE EN BALLON.

Thor - I guess either. I've concentrated on 2009 films, but others have brought up other things. Your call really! (As for a list, Jon Broxton usually has one over on his site when he announces his awards.)

  5. Strange to think that anyone who liked Desplat's music would find BALLON fluffy! wink

  6. Having spent a bit of time with these scores in the last few days, I'd have to say Creation (Christopher Young) is definitely up there as one of the finer efforts from the year. Not so convinced about The Last Station (Yevtushenko), which is nice, but only really lifted me when its fine waltz theme was playing.
