And now Powers Boothe too. He was beyond awesome in 24.

His breakthrough in Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones was spellbinding. What a powerhouse performance.
I really loved Boothe in the HBO series Deadwood as well. Even if (BIG if) the follow-up film emerges, it won't be the same without him.

  1. Never saw Deadwood. What's it about?
Seeing its HBO, it'll be required viewing I guess.

It's about the very wild and very nasty west. It's brilliant. Despite getting cancelled after the third season it is very much worth the viewing.

It's a great show, but the dialogue is extremely complicated, oldfashioned and literary, so you'd better watch it with subtitles.

They're talking about making a movie about it now, to tie the loose knots together.
    I am extremely serious.

    NOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Chris Cornell dead at 52.

One of my personal heroes. A one of a kind voice and the singer of one of my favorite bands Soundgarden.

This is truly horrible news, I was listening to them in my car on the way to work, singing along with Chris.

Known among film music fans for the brilliant 'You Know My Name' from Casino Royale.

    R.I.P. to a gifted artist.

The music of the film lost to Mary Poppins that year. Dusty Springfield singing "The Look of Love" is a standard.
    listen to more classical music!

I think you may be thinking of the original CASINO ROYALE, Tom, not the recent Bond flick for which Cornell wrote the song?

But good to see you back! smile

Soundgarden are one of the founders of Seattle-based grunge rock, next to Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Maybe that's why you never heard about them / him. I love his voice and range, and song-writing talents.

He was performing with his band on stage just yesterday. Latest reports say possible suicide.

  4. Not my style of music at all. I first thought he might belong to The Cornells.

    "I think he's attempting re-entry, sir."

RIP Roger Moore. Seemed to be an absolute gentleman and did an awful lot for good causes.
  6. My mother had a crush on him since The Persuaders. I guess she was not the only one.

Okay, he had a good innings at 89 but damn I'm still saddened. Part of my childhood, he's given me so much entertainment, first The Saint, then The Persuaders and of course Bond.

And as James mentioned above he seemed a damned fine human being who was involved in many humanitarian causes.

Another one of those rare celebrity deaths that affected me, very saddened by this sad

  7. Because I've never seen him as Bond and maybe once or twice in other films, this doesn't affect me as much as certain other recent deaths, but I understand another big screen icon has departed us.

    R.I.P. sad

He was the first Bond I ever saw (in Moonraker, no less! rolleyes ) , and as these things happen, that makes him "my" Bond. And I still think For Your Eyes Only is the best Bond film ever.

He was an elegant gentleman, although less so with women who he -mostly in his younger years- tended to treat as fairly exchangeable (something he readily admits to in his autobiography).
And while not maybe the evry finest of actors, his charisma and charm always lit up the screen, and I never failed enjoying seeing him.

I know that one of his wishes was to appear again in a Bond film as a villain.
I'm sorry he never got the chance (although I understand it woudl not have fit in with the "new Bond" direction).
    I'll remember him very fondly.
The first (official) Bond to go. What an icon.

...and, on a completely unrelated note, I had no idea he was Connery's senior! (by three years).

Shame. I always watched the show when it came on TV; genuinely hilarious stuff. He came to a comic-con in my city recently, didn't get to see him though.
