Wasn't a difficult choice with "How to train your dragon" being such a phenomenal score.

there are a lot lesser known scores that are also good not just the obvious ones by the usual suspects

I'm sure that's true. I doubt anyone in existance has ever heard all 1342 scores composed this year though, so it will never be a fair choice. The score that wins will likely be the score with the most publicity. Entirely unfair, but that's how surveys go. "Best Film Scores of 2010" is a misnomer.

Dragon gets my vote too. I'm usually hesitant to go with the crowd, but this time there's a crowd for a reason. I've enjoyed that score more than any in ages. It's the best Powell's done and the best score I've heard this year.

You are so right about that! I heard all the popular scores but my favorite score of the year is Leonie by Jan A.P. Kaczmarek.

True. I always wonder why people don't use the word favorite instead of best. But I guess the word favorite doesn't have the same impact as best?

I think 2010 was the year when untraditional film composers did work that superseded the specialists - Daft Punk's TRON, Reznor & Atticus' SOCIAL NETWORK, Nick Cave & Warren Ellis' THE ROAD, Brian Eno's THE LOVELY BONES and so on. The exceptions being Zimmer's INCEPTION and Korzeniowski's A SINGLE MAN.
    I am extremely serious.

    Lucky you!

I was trying to make a top 10 list of my favorite 2010 scores and I realised that I don't have ten scores which I really like sad

Wolfman wasn't great, but not as bad as I was led to believe, entertaining with a few beers.

Tim Burton's films, IMO, get worse and worse, style over substance and I've seen the style over and over and it's bleedin' boring.

There are still a couple of days left to cast your votes for the best film scores of this year. If you haven't cast your vote yet, please follow the link below.

Thanks to everyone who has participated so far.

And as to the use of the word "best," it "looks" better from a marketing standpoint. And especially if I'm trying to entice people to vote, it's almost a subliminal mind f*** used by marketers since before marketing was invented. "Favorite" is the term I use when I make lists in my posts, because it's my personal opinion and obviously there's no such thing as "best" in art. But if I need a call to action, "best" has more power than "favorite." Usually our favorites are what we personally think are the best. There's no deep secret behind it and you shouldn't read anything into it. It's all just meant to be fun. smile
