The american composer of the beautiful JOHN Q, the romantic brilliance of THE NOTEBOOK but also FLICKA, BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA and MR. MAGORIUM's WONDER EMPORIUM.

For anyone interested, here's my latest review on his tender and sentimental score for the MARTIAN CHILD

Good review of Martian Child mate, spot-on really - a very pleasant listen but his Thomas Newman genuflections are becoming a bit too transparent. Flicka is still the best thing I've heard of his.
  1. I very much liked NOTEBOOK, but apart from that I haven't really been able to 'get into' Zigman's music. TERABITHIA just didn't grab me. (A bit too much like HORSE WHISPERER.) Some of the work on MAGORIUM is lovely, though the highlight is of course the main theme by....

I'd highlight THE NOTEBOOK as his best work to date, too. The opening "Ave Maria" from JOHN Q is equally brilliant as well.

I was going to say Zigman's best is March of the Penguins, but then realised it's not actually by him. Therefore The Notebook has to get the vote. I do think he could be decent in the future.

I can't stand The Notebook (based on one of Michael's old 20 minute suites) - one of the soppiest, most unlistenable things I've ever heard, it just grates with it's unrelenting "lushness"(if that's a word!).
  2. Don't worry Demetris, I included the highlights in that suite. He's basically heard the score.

It isn't FAR FROM HEAVEN or ANGEL are far as Douglas Sirk recreations go, but it's the best I've heard from Zigman so far.

I've only heard Bridge To Terabitha so far? Too saccharine for my taste but I'm still keeping my ears open.

THE NOTEBOOK is what i'd deeply recommend to anyone getting in touch with Zigman for the first time. As for mate David's reaction about it, i have to say i am surprised as it's the first actual time i've heard someone reacting like that to NOTEBOOK! shocked smile

I can understand how somebody might find The Notebook just a little too saccharine - it goes further than John Barry would have done, for instance - but I think it stays on the right side of the line.

The melodies are so beautiful and addictive. I too can see how they might echo a bit too melo to some but i'd assume that they'd be the extreme minority. I find that for most of people, the score's sweetness and directness of the themes are impossible to resist, when you give it its time and space to breath and get accustomed to its traits.

Composer Aaron Zigman reunites with director/writer Tyler Perry to score Lionsgate's Meet the Browns. Using a large orchestra, Zigman conducted his score at the Sony Scoring Stage and got it all done in one evening. Check out our exclusive coverage and photos!

Still no confirmation on Sex and the City: The Movie?

Usually it'll be confirmed/shot down by the agent by now.

It's even listed in Zigman's filmography on his official page, that should be confirmation enough.

While it's not the most inspiring project ever Sex and the City: The Movie could be a big hit (large fan base) therefore opening some more doors for Zigman. Now that can't be a bad thing.
