I've just uploaded a review of Bob Belden's excellent jazz score for Three Days of Rain:
http://reelmusic.wordpress.com/2011/11/ … ob-belden/
It is an excellent listen. I recommend you at least listen to the samples. The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

After hearing Three Days of Rain I wanted to try and expand my experience with jazz scores, so I now have the following titles to listen to:
Des Femmes Disparaissent - Art Blakey
Ascenseur Pour L'échafaud - Miles Davis
Alfie - Sonny Rollins
College Confidential - Dean Elliot
The Fugitive Kind - Kenyon Hopkins
The Hustler - Kenyon Hopkins
Should keep me going for a bit!The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

I'm familiar with Alfie ( a very fine jazz score IMO ) and look forward to hearing your opinions on the others. -

As do I. Especially Ascenseur Pour L'Échafaud, which I really like a lot (his The Spook That Sat At The Door is very good too! And I'm not even much of a Davis fan!)“The Bible contains six admonishments to homosexuals and 362 admonishments to heterosexuals. That doesn't mean that God doesn't love heterosexuals. It's just that they need more supervision.” ~ Lynn Lavner -

That's a Davis too then, I gather?
EDIT: never mind.

No. Bob Belden. But, apparently it is quite Miles Davis-esque in places.

The Bob Belden is a clone of Davis material. -

"Clone"? You mean a rip-off or just commenting that they have a similar style? The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

I don't usually highlight when I add a "Ten Tracks Today" post to my blog but there's always a childish enthusiasm to share when I listen to my selection of TV themes. Maybe it taps into the childhood memories of the shows or the affection with which I hold a lot of these themes. Maybe it's just that they all tend to be awesome themes?
Anyway, here's a link to tonight's selection of 10 tracks:
http://reelmusic.wordpress.com/2011/11/ … mber-2011/
Great themes include UK-specific themes for World of Sport, Superstars, Crown Court, some iconic themes such as Hawaii Five-0 and The A-Team and some lesser known ones such as Midnight Caller. Also there's a tune from Chigley.

Clone to me is copying. I've heard several "Miles Davis Sound" trumpet players/ arrangements over the years.

I have added another review to Reel Music:
http://reelmusic.wordpress.com/2011/12/ … erre-oser/
It's a score written by Pierre Oser and was commissioned in 2001 for the restoration of a German-Indian film Die Leuchte Asiens (1925). Oser wrote the score for string quintet and 3-4 woodwinds (and a trombone). The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

A trombone as the only brass instrument is an odd ensemble. I listened to a couple of the tracks and I admit it does work.

I seem to vaguely recall some obscure TV movie having a solo tuba-only score; Shirley Walker I think was the composer. The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else. -
