    What's a CD cabinet?

It's like a drinks cabinet except that it's always full.

It's like a structured set of folders of MP3s.
    But tangible.

(I think between us we have got the right visual approach to make these whippersnappers get it, Timmer wink )

Schnittke Piano Concerto. This work is quite unique in that it combines a dissonance with a melody line.

    Cults- Cults

Wow! This pop duo has eaten, digested and is now sweating Phil Spector!
With clear great love for the psychedelic era of the late sixties, the -very brief, 33 minutes!- debut album of the group is nothing so much as a continuous Wall Of Sound, with massive reverbs and all over the place.
    ...and I love it!

Their biggest single to date 'Abducted' kicks off the album, and sets the tone perfectly for the rest of it.
Nothing after really stands out, and if I felt incharitable I'd say it's a gimmmick that is "sixtying up" a couple of pretty good (though not outstanding) pop tunes, but the sheer energy of the duo and the glorious production makes the album a wonderful listen from start to finish....and at the end I actually found myself wanting more!

Oh, and they use a glockenspiel a lot.

If they use a harpsichord on their next album I'll be a fan for life.
    wink

NP: MAVIS IN LAS VEGAS PETER MAXWELL DAVIES(1997)

Definitely a modern sounding work it is written around his stay in Las Vegas and presents a variety of moods, tempos and orchestrations. This is a new recommended release from Naxos.

I would tread with caution concerning Maxwell Davies, some of his stuff is very inaccessable.

Oh, definitely Tom, I'm just saying it's a bit of a minefield, listening to the "wrong" work could put someone off listening to any more.

An old interview I read (maybe late 90's), where he was asked about some contemporary composers he liked, but I have no way of finding it now, unfortunately.

The other work on the release is his first symphony and the best way to describe it is there is no casual listening about it. He is trying to explore many different avenues but the Vegas piece is quite accessible.
