The worse thing about being an extreme extrovert is that socialising is very tiring, and you often want to be left alone, but there's also a deep need to connect to people. Extreme introversion is ideally about having the cake and eating it too.
  1. In crouded places with a high noise level (parties), I have difficulties to concentrate on what people are saying. The background noise keeps distracting me. Mostly I end up asking the other guy outside the place to lead a decent conversation. It amazes me how people can understand each other under such circumstances. Maybe they can all lip read? smile

Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.

Yes, this is why I hate loud night clubs (aside from the dancing and close proximity to obnoxious people). You need to resort back to apish-like communications since you can hardly be heard.

I like conversation and that's why I never liked Night Clubs or really noisy pubs.

No, they call it (in psyacoustics) the 'cocktail party effect'. It's an ability of the brain-inner ear. Read more about it here, very interesting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cocktail_party_effect
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

    So I'm back.

I was so hung over and tired yesterday that I almost missed my flight. I was in REALLY bad shape, and felt like I could throw up at any given time. In fact, I can hardly remember travelling from Krakow to Oslo, but I made it somehow.

There's SO much to digest here -- this is probably the biggest film music event of all time (at least the biggest I have personally attended) -- so I have to start organizing my thoughts and material in the coming days.

    Of course.

It's interesting that even though I've met Elliot several times, and Hans once before, the only one that really was open and actually contacted me, was Patrick Doyle (after the Helsinki interview a month ago). God, I love that guy! He also really made the socalled 'super composer panel' interesting and NOT just just a dreary snoozefest.

Rather embarassingly, I took a cab with Maggie Rodford -- his agent -- at one point, but I didn't really know what she looked like so I asked if she was with the ASCAP crowd. Only later did I realize who she was. shame

I know who she is, of course, but I have never bothered to check out her image, for some reason.

Yeah, I'll be sure to come back next year, should finances and time allow.

That's great, Karol! Looking forward to reading it. Just to be clear, the 'super composer panel' picture is also mine, not Wojciech Wandzel's. smile

No problem! I'm honoured that you found my photo to be on the same level as the festival photographer. wink

Great report, by the way. Far more detailed than mine, which is coming up on IFMCA and Montages. The Grand Gothic Suite was really the highlight of the entire festival, wasn't it? Interestingly, the light show was made out of necessity, as they didn't have the rights to show any footage or stills from the film. Or so Robert said, anyway.

Fortunately for me, as I don't speak Polish, I never understood anything the Polish hosts said. Sorry to hear that the female host of the ASCAP concert seemed unprepared. Did she say a lot of stupid stuff?
    I am extremely serious.
  4. Yes, she did. Same with the Bond concert.

On Gladiator she said "The gladiator who became a slave, the slave who became a gladiator", but the translator automatically corrected it biggrin

Yeah she said things "I'll list some sponsors now because, these days, there is no culture without sponsors. Unfortunately". Not only is it completely inappropriate but also incorrect. There never was any culture without patrons and sponsors. And she made mistakes, would forget names. Bizarre. What makes it worse is the fact she's a director of Poland's major cultural TV channel.

The lightshow was great. Cheesy but perfect for Goldenthal. You can tell Krakow loves the guy.

  5. And having chatted with him a bit, he reciprocates the love smile

Yeah, she is, but you also have to see the state of affairs that the only film composer that gets promoted and hailed on such channels is probably Kilar...

Yes, I notice that. Which is quite unfortunate.

Not that there is anything wrong with Kilar.

  7. There's nothing wrong in that of course, but they fail to notice the genre as a whole.
