I agree, this score sucks balls until they bleed.

I haven't heard everything because I just couldn't stand it. Not because I'm a snobbisch, orchestra only or 'only the old is good' Justin kinda guy, but just becuase it's utterly disgusting, haidache indulging, foot-in-mouth music. I don't know who decides this to want this to be composed and be put in a movie. WTF man! Its just very bad, flat and unpersonal music.

It's even worse some of us have to excuse themselves for not liking this, not because it clearly sucks, but because the others think we only want the oldies or classics. Is it so hard to see how bad this is? wink

If it's so bad, why do 94% of critics like the film?

Are the days past when a great film requires a great score?

Can you name a single of the all-time top blockbusters that did NOT have a great score?
I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to!

Iron Man, while I'm sure quite enjoyable, wouldn't qualify as an "all-time blockbuster" by the longest stretch of the imaginaion.
It'll be more in the way of "enjoyably noisy summer fare" which almost as a rule of thumb has negligible or merely serviceable scores (Hulk, Transformers, Superman Returns, X-Men et cetera et cetera)

A true soundtrack enthusiast is someone who can enjoy all film scores, no matter the quality of composition. You'd better say "fans of pure orchestral music" or "fans of golden/silver age of film music".

    Indeed.

all this talk about the 'true' film music fans or enthusiasts or anything like that, reminds me of MANOWAR and "posers" vs "true brothers of metal".

I usually base my conclusions off the worldwide blockbusters list, where I don't think Shrek 3 rates so highly.

But my point wasn't that Iron Man is going to be one of the all-time greatest hits (although it could if it holds well, especially if Speed Racer isn't successful). My point was my question...does a great (or at least a good) film still have to have a great score? Because traditionally it did...right?

No, never had good films always matched with good scores.

As for IRON MAN, do you really think it's SUCH a good film, ranking among those very films from our dear past you have in mind? Do you really think that after 20 years time it will actually be remembered?

I think not. People are just exaggerating on this film and its antithesis with the Djawadi score. If someone else had actually scored it, and better, then i don't think people would feel the need to highlight the difference and many times - even unconsciously, overrate the actual value of the film by doing so.

Demetris, in any case, this is a movie where the actual film itself is better than the musical score that accompanies it.

The music works in the context of the film. And RC music isn't necessarily bad. I think a lot of you dislike it because there is so much of it. I like plenty of RC music, along with plenty of non RC music.

Is IRON MAN a great movie masterpiece that will stand against time and climate change? No.
Is IRON MAN a great intro into this year´s summer blockbuster extravaganza? Yes.
Is IRON MAN´s shameless but entertaining machism enhanced by the score? I think so.
Does that mean it´s a good score for the movie? IMHO, yes.
Does that mean it´s a good listen outside the movie? That depends on your taste and nothing else.
So where´s the difference between this RC score and all the others we teared ourselves apart about? There is none. You can end this discussion or go right over to the Transformers topic to see how it ends.

You assume there must be some other reason people rate a film like this so highly. Can it not just be it's a good film? Good film, extremely average score.

A long time ago he heard about something called Iron Man... He saw the name Favreau, so as everybody did, he thought John "The Devil broke my computer because I used a choir sample as main theme for another film" Debney would be hired for it...

Unfortunaly, it wasn't the case... And another named appeared => Ramin Djawadi !

Who ? Someone from Re... Rem... Remote... Remote Controoooooool !!!!!!

"God, what have I done ? I need an explanation !!!

RC... Grrrrr... Wow ! I understand ! That's a test ! Haha !!!! Whatever happens, the score is BAD, BAD, BAD !!!!! Electric guitars ? Hans Zimmer as producer ? Hahaha !! THANK YOU GOD, you're the MAN !!! Hahahahahahahaaaaaaaa !!!!!!"

Well, depends how one defines a "good film" 'cause i see Spiderman up there with the top blockbusters of all time and i want to throw up but generally speaking, i see a vivid tendency (*cough* fsm *cough*) to toss the score in high contrast to the supposed brilliance of the film. I don't buy it..Iron man? Nah.

Well...I for one thought Iron Man was a much better film than any and ALL of the Spiderman films. I won't say it is cinematic brilliance or anything, but it was a very good time and I will see it again and buy the DVD when it comes out. Oh...I also pre ordered the CD several weeks ago...will see how it holds up on CD when I get it...
---- Well, I wouldn't argue that it wasn't a no holds barred, adrenaline fueled thrill ride. But, there is no way you can perpetrate that amount of carnage and mayhem and not incur a considerable amount of paperwork.
