Like Bregje, I just click the "mark all as read" button once in a while when the backlog starts to grow.
There's topics I read fully, topics I skim, and topics I visit very rarely. So really I have no answer that would even come close to any sensible tally.

Yeah, we recently talked about this right?
But probably in a blue topic that's on Michael's 'what am I missing' list...

I marked all posts as read a while ago and within four days I was behind already. I think the most unread posts were 700 something. I skip most composer topics, for the weird reason that I can't see what people are discussing, because it's not in the topic title. Neither can I see that in the NP topic title, but I read those. Maybe it's the FONT THAT SCARES ME OFF?
    wink

I skip a lot of topics, while sometimes just reading a few replies and immediately forgetting what was being discussed!

The games thread. Couldn't think of a more boring thread.
  1. Why? I love some computer games here or there.

Eh... I like some games. But talking about them? Zzzz. (I'm bitter about it because I live with a couple of gamers who go on and on and on and on about friggin games. sleep )
  2. Ah yes, then start to discuss the merits of Elliot Goldenthal with them or find a conversation killer, that may work. biggrin

I used to be able to recognise gamers by their far too long, unwashed and unkempt hair and beards, the pungent smell of a primal and principled aversion against deodorant and their black attire. I didn't need to come too close to know they were talking about armour classes, hit points, or the relative benefits of the Enterprise-D to go up aginst the mark II Death Star.*)

Now obviously that was still in the days of High Adventur...erm...tabletop role playing. You know: roling dice and actually talking to other people who were actually there.

NOW though, I am dismayed to see high ranking managers, complete with suit and tie, discuss campaigns on World of Warcraft or end-level bosses (or something) with nigh professional zeal!

I still have difficulty reconciling both spheres of influence. smile

*) Don't jump down my throat. I've been roleplaying for ten years (though only with slightly less popular gaming systems than Advanced Dungeons & Dragons): all the prejudices, all the preconceptions about tabletop gamers...they're true! They're TRUE!

Are you sure you're not mistaking gamers with metalheads? wink

    Without a doubt!

I haven't played any of those games since the early 90's but they were great fun and a good way of socialising with new people, in the group I played with there was a heart surgeon a casino croupier a youth worker and a gorgeous girl I fancied the pants off though unfortunately I was never able to fancy her "out" of her pants slant wink, as I remember the majority of them seemed to be into Heavy Metal. However I also saw friendships fall apart, such was the level of seriousness.

I was never really into roleplaying, neither real life, computer nor tabletop. I DID love the computer adventure games of the 90's, though (Lucasarts, Sierra etc.), but it ended there. I don't count the fact that I've been acting in plays and various media over the years, as that's a whole other thing.

I do like SOME types of games, though - cards (mainly poker), knowledge games like Trivial Pursuit or Buzz (for playstation). Any types of quiz are cool too, especially if you're a team at a pub - very social, even though you're mostly focussed on the game itself.

Eh....Thor's rant of the day. smile

To make this relevant to the topic at hand, I think you can notice from my earlier list that computer stuff doesn't interest me very much (computer games or other stuff). It's a useful tool and a source for much entertainment, but I have no real interest in hardware or software; what actually makes it click.
    I am extremely serious.

I used to love ( still do ) playing world domination game RISK. Three of us used to play it every Monday night and the first person out had to buy ALL the drinks on the following Friday night out...made it much more tense wink it stopped after a couple of Months when it turned out to be just the one person ( not me cool ) losing over and over again.

BEST GAME EVER! I´ve spent so many nights playing RISK. What an addictive, fun and exciting game, although a bit cruel sometimes.
