  1. Ha -- the whole thing is up legally on Hulu.com (as far as I know, films on Hulu are only avaiable to U.S. viewers). Now I'll just shcedule in a time to see the movie.

    It's already gearing up to be an expensive year for me with such great releases from FSM, Varese, Kritzerland, Intrada....and I've hardly bought a brand new release, Avatar being the last and that was in December.

    Not familiar with this one. The main theme is just lovely. But nothing else struck me as a must-buy.

    Not at all like the Bernstein. This was one of Mancini's lesser releases IMHO

    Hmmm...and I actually never liked the Bernstein score for that one, so I guess it's a pass for me.
    It's good I checked here first. When I saw it was Mancini I pushed "BUY" almost by default. cheesy

    Different generation I guess. I bought the album new as I was a completist of Mancini at the time and rarely listened to it. I just can't afford it.

    Or anybody know of any good rerecordings that are on par with the originals but with better sound quality?
  15. I don't know, but what I do know:

    Chgristophe Beck re-recorded the PP theme for the shitty remake film a few years back, using the same saxiphonist that Mancini used. OF course it sounds in better quality.

    I'd avoid the score like the plague. If you want that one cue, you can PM me.

    He recorded them many times. Have a listen to the Telarc recording sometime.

    Fair nuff! For me there's something "animal" about the raw sound of the original Peter Gunn theme that I absolutely love and where new recordings sound too clean and sanitised.

    I know what you mean; I like that, too, and this is how it became familiar, but it did sound clean and sanitised on the actual recording stage, I imagine. Should be fun to jump in a time machine and attend all those recording sessions of familiar stuff like Star Wars, Jaws, Patton, etc., and be amazed at the sound.

    By the way, does anyone have the Midnight, Moonlight, Magic compilation? How's that? Those are the originals, right? Are they remastered in any way?

    If this is Mancini its a compilation and not original

    I just received a copy of The Moneychangers, a new Mancini release from Intrada. Since this is my first listen I won't give an opinion yet.
