  1. Just out of interest, are there many people in the market to buy something that takes their fancy?

I ordered three cd's from Thor, and did so before as well. Also bought from Bhel. So if you have fancy stuff, I probably will. wink

One full box of CDs weighs between 15-20 kg (depending on size of box), so sending whole collection would be out of the question.

I looked into selling my LP collection at one time and the cost was unreal as we're talking over 2000 lbs.

Flippin' eck Tom, you've got a ton of LP's.

Couldn't find it through the E-bay link
Counts for Tom and FalkirkBairn too. I'm always interested in good vinyl soundtracks.

Yes, I do, Dutchbat. However, they're all CD's, no vinyl.

Just updated the list in the first post.

  2. No vinyl here either. Though I am struggling with releasing any of my CDs!

I have, but I have to cover the shipping myself, and if they decide not to purchase said items after I've sent them, or offer very little for them, it may result in a lose-lose scenario.

I've sold a few boxes of CDs to SAE recently and couldn't be happier. They send you a quote first so you know if it's even worth sending them. I averaged a generous $3 per CD, but it probably helped that I threw a few noteworthy scores and famous composers in each batch. From my experience it was really efficient and I would do it again in a heartbeat (but I'm in the same country as them).

Yeah, I think the "same country" thing makes all the difference in the world. Shipping boxes to the US is really expensive from Norway. But I have no doubt they're very customer-friendly.

Being they pay for your shipping, I suppose you would get virtually nothing for the actual CDs to cover those shipping costs. Bummer. It is so nice to have a place that takes virtually everything thrown their way at short notice.

Let me know what you might be looking for. The killer in terms of cost will be the shipping. I just sent one CD to Poland and it cost $3.40 and another single CD to Bristol at $2.56. But I've got them so let me know.

A bold question, where do you live? I will come to the States in two weeks (Dutchbat too, but only smaller area), or PM me if you do not want to put it in pubic forum.
If you live near my tour I can take them with me what Dutchbat ordered from you.

I am making a tour with the following stops:
    Los Angeles, CA
    Las Vegas, NV
    Fresno, CA
    San Francisco, CA
    Astoria, OR
    Tacoma, WA

Hmm. Every now and then I wonder if I really need to keep my CDs. And so I checked out musicMagpie after having seen their ad on TV. Adding CD barcodes to their site I'm getting a flat-rate quote of £3.00 per item (when it's recognised) regardless of what it is. Being that a lot of what I have is sold-out limited editions and OOPs maybe this isn't the place to go.

It's the medium that's outmoded, Alan.
    Not the content.

Nobody cares about CDs any more...so you'll get nou money for 'em. sad
(On the bright side, it has brought my insurance premiums down a bit as these are simply not wanted commodities any more and are therefore that much less likely to be stolen.)

That's why I never sell CDs.
If I want to get rid of 'em, I'd much rather give them away.
Hmmmm....maybe it's time to reboot the Giveaways thread.
I have quite a few doubles and extras I'd enjoy making someone else happy with.

For me, it's a matter of physical downscaling. I keep the music I like, and sell the CD (please, no ethical discussion about whether or not I'm "bootlegging"....too tired for that right now). Or I both sell it and delete it at the same time. I don't expect to get even a small percentage of what I once paid for it. I'd like to give away more too, but I need to go in 'zero', at least (since I pay for shipping in giveaways). I'm not PAYING money to lose all my CD's. Maybe once in a while, but not all of them.

Speaking of which, I need to update my sales list again with more items.
    I am extremely serious.

I think the CD question for me is I have the setup which is a fine amp and cd player to listen to them. I can also play them in my car as an added bonus and I have been collecting for 30 years. As far as value is concerned I know that they have little value except for a few select limited edition ones. I suppose at some point I should try to sell them on e-bay. They're like stamps (most ones), no value to speak of.
