Daniel Craig, a fine actor but he ISN'T Bond, he looks more like a northern English coal miner or a bricklayer than a sophisticated secret agent.

The Bond films have been shit for a long time, Casino Royale was alright'ish but without the music it could have been any number of modern thrillers, I wouldn't want them to return to the camp of Roger Moore but I would like to see a return of megalomaniac super villians and memorable henchmen.

It's interesting, coz I feel the complete opposite. I like the way JB has been heading in the Craig films. More realistic, less "campy", less black/white. More like the BOURNE films.

Then again, it may have something to do with the fact that I didn't grow up with these films, and only saw them in adult age (and - with a few exceptions - didn't like them very much when I did).

"more like the BOURNE films" That just says it all! rolleyes ( I like the Bourne films, I don't want Bond to be them too ) Bond used to be a leader not a copier.

You know, I haven't seen a single Bond-film prior to The Living Daylights, so I've only Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan to compare with. I liked Brosnan a lot though and the first two starring him (Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies) I still watch on a regular basis because they have that fun element.

Too bad. Old Bond is real Bond, pure gold.

Bond was always about grace, utter charm, class and elegance.

Now he's a witty cruel dark bastard; too many of those characters around, Bond SHOULD never change, he should always be something entirely different otherwise he's not differentiated by the rest of the bunch.

PLUS, he looks like Vladimir friggin Putin. That's terribly offPUTINg.

Sean Connery could kick seven shades of fuck out of every single Bond actor that followed him, even now at 70+ I reckon he could bust Daniel Craig a new arse hole and have him begging for his mamma while crying ass backwards through the doors marked 'for wimps only'.

I must admit Craig is my favourite incarnation of the character, which probably says I don't really like the character and his history as much as a real fan.

    No. you don't!

    The film character, then.
Craig is playing the character closest to Fleming's description, where Bond -for all his bluster about the proper year for cognac- was really nothing more than a bully and a ruffian.

Fleming thought Noel Coward would be perfect for the role, hardly a description that fits Daniel Craig, or Sean Connery for that matter.

I thoroughly enjoyed Casino Royale first time round, in the cinema. Much less so on repeat viewings. Question Of Sport was just awful though.

    Alright.
    What we know.

    November 9, 2012 release.

We've got Craig and Dench back.

And Javier Bardem in talks as the villain.

50th year anniversary. Hopefully it will be a big Bond year. It would be awesome if there were some theatrical re-releases.

Director Sam Mendes. Road To Perdition (A couple of amazing scenes in this portion of the film. The tension that Mendes is able to building in so many of scenes throughout the film is incredible. Could you imagine the building of tension to a fight that could rival Red grant in FRWL?) is one of my favorite films. I hope he returns to the balance the Connery films had along the lines of action/suspense/ espionage scenes.

Peter Morgan of Frost/Nixon and The Queen is one of the writers. Ha! Maybe we'll get some actual dialogue back in this one.

I'd love to have Arnold back. I just want one scene where the Bond theme could come in just once. Brass or guitar. Just something. And not only at the end credits. rolleyes

And... Dame Shirley Bassey for the title song. biggrin

...and a homage to John Barry, with Arnold on board I can't imagine a 50th anniversay passing by without a tip of the hat to 'the guv'ner'.

Hey! This is why Dame Shirley Bassey should be back! Not to mention other nods.

glad to see people still into this franchise. I too used to be in love with bond until they decided to kill it off with ' look at me i am dark and evil and kill for hobby' Putin

I lost my interest in the franchise ...
I've seen every Bond movie and I thought the last two were awful , even boring at some points !
Craig is very physical and ok with the part but I just didn't like the films .
I remember back in the old days that a Bond film was fun , exciting , full of action and full of beautiful dames !
It was always something to look forward to and it doesn't have that effect on me anymore .

Oh yeah and I also miss the gadgets ! biggrin

Agree. I find Craig highly unlikeable as Bond, I'm not, heaven forbid, saying the films should return to the comedy of Roger Moore's days but these films are devoid of any charm.

I'm in complete agreement of all the above. He is too militaristic and is not suave at all. He needs to relax. Bond knows how to have a good time. cool

bond would see a gorgeous woman and do everything in the world to charm and win her over with his grace. The new bond looks like he would rape and kill her.

    cheesy

    sad

    shame

In all seriousness, your absolutely right. Maybe they will let his character mature for this next one.

Interestingly, I feel quite the opposite from you guys. I only really got interested in Bond with the last Craig films (although I liked some of the Brosnan outings too). I've always found the older Bond films silly cheesefests for the most part, while the newer films are more to my liking. Then again, I didn't grow up with them and only saw most in adult age.
    I am extremely serious.
  1. I like this current Bond. He makes most of the rest feel like weak actors to me (Connery excepted).

Gothca. Well Craig's take isn't my personal favorite. He did some great things, but I think abandoned some basic character aspects that are important.

I think that Dalton is one of the most skilled actors of the six as a whole.

True. I've only seen one of his, and he was good in that.
I think Brosnan wasn't bad, but he was still a touch Roger Moore-ish for me. Mind you, he would have fit better in QUANTUM OF SOLACE (a return to more ridiculous territory for the series) than Craig did.

Dalton was very good, my only negative is that he lacks charisma.

another thing about Craig, I don't know how tall he is but he looks short, too short to pull off the sophistication of Bond in a suit or Bond with some leggy model, compare him to Sean Connery ( or even the seriously underappreciated George Lazenby ) and Craig has drawn the short straw...pun intended. Craig looks like a binman or a scaffolder or a road digger, not Bond.

Isn't Craig's Bond supposed to be closer to Ian Fleming's original conception of the character than any of the previos ones?
