I wonder just how much ambiguity Nolan consciously included in the story? There surely comes a point where speculations on the story are like the many interpretations of a painting, and although fun and interesting, are more reflections of your thoughts than the writer's?

Not to take anything away from Nolan's script: I think it's amazing. How do you even begin to write something like that!? dizzy
  2. And the script is insanely precise, the most precise storytelling I've seen in YEARS.

To see this topic with new added posts and interpretations about the movie made my day.

(but I have to admit, it was a crappy day...)

Are you sure this doubting of the author's intention, wasn't itself an inception planted by the film?

To be honest though, I do see your point. This is territory where the author only has to go so far in order for the audience to fill in the blanks with insanely detailed theories based on the absence of evidence. But in defense of suggestions that the film has complexity, in the couple of years it takes to get from script to final screen product, there's a lot of opportunity for overthinking from the filmmaking side.

  4. More or less action, to be completely honest. This is the most intelligent movie I have seen in years. The amounts of possible interpretations (with the only problem I have being the fact that the whole symbolic element of the story was verbal - through names - rather than visual) of the story makes it what today only Nolan can do today - an arthouse high profile genre movie.

Some questions were left for interpretation. Which world is real, who really is Mal (alive or not?), she also seems to be the only visual symbol of the movie - a character who is definitely the living complex of the main character. The question is simply. How much did Nolan want to hide from us?

For me it's more, 'this is the smartest action blockbuster in years'.
Had the film really punched through to me emotionally, that might have been different. But the film isn't really interested in that.

  6. I wouldn't say action only, but yeah, I would say blockbuster instead of movie. I do need to get a better knowledge of what's happening in Europe, particularly in France.

    Hey! I like Lost! angry

Wait. You... you didn't actually mention Lost, did you? Oh.
  7. Well, it seems we aren't the only ones being in awe of the movie!

If you're referring to Red Letter Media, then no, I would imagine not. He only reviews bad films.

You do realise the voice is all part of the irony, right?
