    Possession - Yared

Nice list, Tim! And it's not often that one sees fans for that Yared score. punk
But the main theme that appears a number of times in the score is heavily influenced by Chopin. It has also been used by Sarde in Dis-Moi Oui....

It's still a great, great score. Unlike Slumdong wink
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

I didn't know about the Chopin influence but still, like D says, it's a great, great score!

I just never understood the appeal to Slumdog. My ears must be getting too old.

Mine too then. (Although I've not heard it. But it must have something to do with age... what other explanation is there!?)

Yes he is. The film is darned good, convoluted for sure but it IS a darned good film and I can see why it coveted some awards. Loved it!

I was talking about the score. The film is good at places, but it's basically glorified Bollywood, full of cliches.

Well, it's hard to find a film that isn't full of cliches. It's true that the film follows the Bollywood format, love & separation, revenge, justice, reunification, and I guess it is a glorified Bollywood film but it's still a darned fine film, very well made and made me feel good after watching it and not many films do that to me.

As for the score ( I love it....seriously ) that's all down to personal taste. wink

I saw the film and the music wasn't my cup of tea. The film was ok. As far as cliches are concerned "The Reader," which came out in the same year had far less.

I've just been putting the finishing touches to my own list. It doesn't coincide with the Empire one very much. (None of my top three is there - unsurprisingly.)

    This I look forward to.

I've written the piece - my top thirty - which will appear as the second half of my brief survey of the decade in film music, tomorrow.

Anyone want to guess my top five? smile A handsome prize to anyone who correctly manages it.

I give up, you're far too unpredictable! (There'll be a Horner score in there I reckon.)
  1. Your top 5... (not necessarily in this order)

    - Far From Heaven
    - Mission to Mars
    - The Black Dahlia
    - Return of the King
    - The New World

(And Maurice Jarre's Sunshine must also be a candidate.)

I find it very hard to quantify my favourite scores from this decade. I'd need a whole team of scientists, mathematicians and philosophers to help me decide. (Well, saying that, Lord of the Rings is probably my favourite, I know that much.)

Hmm. Perhaps I AM predictable. (But no cigar...)
  2. I demand a prize. A suitable prize would be for you to present another Moviewave horrorscope in the next month.

What's wrong? It's a brilliant work. I'd pick it in my list too.
  3. Me too.

I won't ask anyone to guess my top 5. It would be painfully obvious, I fear.

    Not a bad idea.

The only one you didn't guess is actually a television score. I am rather annoyed that you predicted so well.

    I'll guess Birth.

Clearly the Pirates of the Caribbean scores will make up the rest of his top five - the only question is, in which order?

I'm struggling to think of a better TV score than Band Of Brothers! (Even though Band Of Brothers is more akin to a series of films rather than a "show".)
