The FITZWILLY/SABRINA thing I definitely buy. No doubt there.
Really? FW/Sabrina doesn't even share the same melody.
Yes... it does! The first 20 or so notes are pretty much identical.
-Erik-
Only in term of rhythmic construction. The notes aren't identical.
<--- that's copy & paste.
<--- Eyes are rolling, but the color is different and the effect isn't "quite" the same. -

Look... strip away the orchestrations. Listen to the tune. "Make Me Rainbows" and "In The Moonlight" are twins separated at birth!

I've listened to both melodies until my ears bleed, and they're not exactly the same. Close, but not quite. (And it takes a lot of ear straining to hear it.) -

Exactly the same? No! But there is no doubting the similarity, there really isn't much difference. On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

I'd forgotten just how much I enjoy the Conti piece, it's great but after listening to all three clips it's still the Holst I want to play.On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

I love what Conti did with the melody... I prefer it over Holst's... but that's because I heard The Right Stuff first.
BTW, I have a fun one lined up for you guys. it's going to take some time to gather the elements but it will be worth it!

Fair do Erik. I've been familiar with the Holst work since I was a very young child, so young I can't even pinpoint when. It's stuff like that that gave me my grounding in orchestral music and my later love of film scores. On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

'Bagoa's Dance' from ALEXANDER (VANGELIS) was TOTALLY temp track for one of Powell's Bourne scores. I'm not sure which Bourne cue it is, but it's an idea that appeared in SUPREMACY and ULTIMATUM. iPod shuffle brought this to my attention.
The Vangelis cue:

What I'm saying is that it's the other way round this time. BOURNE is clearly copying this, to my ears.A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

Bourne Identity (2002) predates Alexander by two years.
Bourne Supremacy (2004) was released in the same year as Alexander.
Bourne Ultimatum was released in 2007.'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

Harry Gregson-Williams also used this rhythmic sample (definitely in Man on Fire which was 2004)http://www.filmmusic.pl - Polish Film Music Review Website -

I assume franz is talking about the ubiquitous "Bourne riff". Well, in the ALEXANDER cue, there's a similar percussion instrument being used, but the electronica-based beat is missing. As are the slight harmonic variations on top. So not really THAT similar, but I DO see where he's coming from. Maybe even the idiosyncratic Vangelis felt the Powell influence?I am extremely serious. -
- CommentTimeNov 24th 2010
