The ignorance of some people will never cease to amaze me!
And if you want a real good laugh, have a look at this Flat Earth Society website!
I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry? /
Yeah, looked at that before, sometimes boggling, sometimes funny, mostly sad!
I must admit, I'm a little skeptical about that Flat-Earthers website. Seems like it could easily be a hoax created to attract the gullible. Hence:
"Using whatever means are deemed necessary and relying heavily on a callous disregard for the lives and well-being of our members, we have slowly but steadily been spreading the news."
Hoax or not (it likely is), it's quite an entertaining read. -

The Flat Earth Society is not in any way responsible for the failure of the French to repel the Germans at the Maginot Line during WWII. Nor is the Flat Earth Society responsible for the recent yeti sightings outside the Vatican, or for the unfortunate enslavement of the Nabisco Inc. factory employees by a rogue hamster insurrectionist group. Furthermore, we are not responsible for the loss of one or more of the following, which may possibly occur as the result of exposing one's self to the dogmatic and dangerously subversive statements made within: life, limb, vision, Francois Mitterand, hearing, taste, smell, touch, thumb, Aunt Mildred, citizenship, spleen, bedrock, cloves, I Love Lucy reruns, toaster, pine derby racer, toy duck, antelope, horseradish, prosthetic ankle, double-cheeseburger, tin foil, limestone, watermelon-scented air freshner, sanity, paprika, German to Pig Latin dictionary, dish towel, pet Chihuahua, pogo stick, Golf Digest subscription, floor tile, upper torso or halibut.
Yep, that's satire alright.
It's a fun parody of denialism (911-truthers, evolution denial, Holocaust denial, Moon landing hoaxers etc.), though I have seen better parodies in the past, where one really doubted whether they were being serious or not.

Steven, check out THE GENIUS OF CHARLES DARWIN at 8.00 pm tonight on Channel 4 presented by reknowned atheist Professor Richard Dawkins, looks likeit could be a fascinating program!?
It's online now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MgpCDMukz0

Well worth checking out that, both to those well versed in evolution and those not so privy to evolutionary facts.
Also, we have a Flat-Earther in our midst! *cough* Bregt -

I think I know everything that was mentioned in the program, though I found the beach fossil hunt amazing. I'm considering going fossil hunting myself, I really didn't know it was that easy. The ammonites were extinct 65 million years ago, and that kid found one lying around on the beach!
I do enjoy Dawkins, he's a talented science popularizer and a great scientist. But I think his way of communicating turns many religious people of, as he tends to set up a false dichotomy between science and religion. I think his real target is the evolution doubters, but he ends up alienating them with his anti-religious agenda, and I think that's a real shame.

It's a good program for those doubters out there with a religious tendency, as it shows the those who reject evolution have simply not bothered to understand it.
But I partly agree, I was kind of hoping for less of a focus on religious attitudes towards evolution and more of a focus on purely explaining evolution with visual means. (Much like Dr. Iain Stewart's series Earth: The Power Of The Planet where he stays away from socialistic impacts of science and purely focuses on explaining the science in a clear, visual manner.) But I enjoy it anyway, and it does make for an interesting program nonetheless. I've read his excellent "The Selfish Gene", which was my first proper introduction to evolution, so it was all familiar to me too. (Learning evolution at school only really scratches the surface of such a vast subject, at least something like The Selfish Gene is a good introduction in setting up the more detailed aspects of evolution.)
Still, say what many will about Dawkins' approach, all that aside he's still a lovely, kind and very moralistic human being, and like I said in the religion thread, the world would greatly benefit if everyone shared the same qualities. -

Count me in too! I'd love to go along with these storm chasers one day. When it was really stormy once, with thunder crashing all around, I was driving the old Hilux truck we used to have... and I decided to put on Mancina's score. Feck me it was awesome! -
