Well, it's not as high profile as Ghent & Ubeda, for sure.
    I am extremely serious.

    Cardiff is more festival-like?

let's see... we already had an John Williams concert in Ghent. We already had a few all round "soundtracks in concert" concerts with the usual tracks. I'm not into Jazz... so that leaves Hopkins?

Yes, I'd be only interested in the last two concerts. Jazz is cool!

Haha. I don't know what that's all about to be honest. It isn't that bad.

Unfortunately, I think I'll be on my well-deserved holiday by that date. Otherwise, I'd be there.

Birmingham shouldn't present you with any problems. Hey, you might even like it! In any case, you'll certainly not go thirsty. wink

Plus, The Symphony Hall is a very nice venue.

A pity you won't be there!

Not that I will, well, not as it currently is looking. I had the idea of a one week trip to Wales, combined with a concert or two, joining the gang both on a mountain and on a concert seat. But well, just an idea. i'll ask the other Belgians.

Anyone going to any of these? I will go to the Williams one if other MTers are going, not otherwise. Let's buy the tickets if anyone's planning on going.
  1. I want to go and you can count me in on the main one everyone prefers.

I think each concert has something I'd like to hear and am considering going to more than one of them.

    Tommy Pearson makes an update:

    Hi everyone,
Just a couple of updates for you regarding our film music concerts in Birmingham, UK, in July.

The '21st Century Soundtracks' concert on the 19th July will include some premieres:
    - A suite from Pride and Prejudice by Dario Marianelli
    - A suite from Thor by Patrick Doyle
    - the cue 'Goodbye (It's a bit awkward)' from Paul by David Arnold
    - music from The King's Speech by Alexandre Desplat
    - and the cue 'Jack Sparrow' from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest; the first time the original music by Hans Zimmer has been performed in concert (existing versions are arrangements by others).

Other music includes Lord of the Rings, Love Actually, There Will Be Blood, Harry Potter (Williams).

In our concerts with Sir Anthony Hopkins on 23/24 July (in Birmingham and Cardiff), we are featuring music by Hopkins himself, together with:
    - Silence of the Lambs (Shore)
    - Remains of the Day (Robbins)
    - Shadowlands (Fenton, who will conduct)
    - suite from John Barry's score for The Lion in Winter
    - premiere of music from Titus by Elliot Goldenthal
    - premiere of music from The Rite by Alex Heffes

Details of venues, dates and tickets here: http://www.cbso.co.uk/?page=filmfestival

And don't forget the night of Jazz in Film with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (incl. Taking of Pelham 123, Bullitt, Dirty Harry, Austin Powers, Touch of Evil). And our night of all-John Williams scores.

I really hope you can join us for this very special week of concerts!

    best,
    Tommy

Me too. Now that my Summer holiday plans have changed, I'll be able to fit them in. Not all of them but perhaps a couple. The John Williams one is a must and I'm also interested in the Anthony Hopkins one - it just seems different.

    We'll see.

  3. Hope it's a good one. Reluctantly, I have decided that circumstances mean that I can't make any of these concerts. Damn!

I might be getting tickets to go to the John Williams one. Be nice to meet up with the two of you for a drink before/after perhaps...?

Bollocks! For some reason I had it in my head that it was next Friday! Now all the seats have sold out, at least those with two beside each other (I was bringing a friend). The only reason I left it so late to buy them was to see if I could get that night off work. And I did. But it was the wrong pissing night.

    Fucking idiot.

Ouch. Pissing nights are always wrong.

Any of the other concerts perhaps? The jazz concert should be fun I think. I have a cd on which that same orchestra performs the pieces also on the programme. It's a great album, with classics from Bernstein, Schiffrin and Mancini, and other stuff like Austin Powers and music from Dudley Moore.
