Bollocks! For some reason I had it in my head that it was next Friday! Now all the seats have sold out, at least those with two beside each other (I was bringing a friend). The only reason I left it so late to buy them was to see if I could get that night off work. And I did. But it was the wrong pissing night.
Fucking idiot.
Oops. Schoolboy error. -

Great concert tonight! Really good orchestra in perhaps the finest concert hall in the country playing the best music of John Williams. Doesn't get much better than that for a film music fan!
Met John Chambers at half time which was nice. John met Jim Ware too though I didn't see him.
Good programme (I've probably forgotten something):
Raiders of the Lost Ark - Raiders March
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - Something (not sure what!) / Aunt Marge's Waltz / The Knight Bus
Schindler's List - Theme
Munich - Prayer for Peace
Close Encounters - Suite
Star Wars - Main and End Title / Princess Leia's Theme
Empire Strikes Back - Yoda's Theme / The Imperial March
The Witches of Eastwick - Devil's Dance
JFK - Overture
Jaws - Theme
Saving Private Ryan - Hymn to the Fallen
The Lost World - Theme
ET - Adventure on Earth
Superman - Theme
Star Wars - Throne Room and Finale
Only complaint - three tracks from Azkaban but no "Window to the Past"?
Williams's music probably translates to the concert hall better than any other film composer's - and it's hard to imagine the music of any other selling out a multi-thousand-seater venue as this did - great concert. -

I'm still gutted that I missed out on this but glad you enjoyed it James! Symphony Hall is a fantastic venue, I agree. -

Had a great time on Friday night, I was amazed at how brilliant the orchestra was, the selections were pretty great too. The violin Solos for Schindler's List and Princess Leia's theme nearly brought me to tears. Was nice to meet Mr and Mrs Southall during the intermission.
The first Harry Potter piece was the Quidditch track, and I agree with James that it was a crime to play three Azkaban tracks and not play 'Window to the Past' or indeed 'Buckbeak's flight'. Also it was bizarre to hear 'Hymn to the Fallen' performed without a choir. But those were my only minor complaints, it was a terrific evening.
Enjoyed it so much that I've booked tickets to see the CBSO again tonight, this time in Cardiff, with Anthony Hopkins in attendance. -

Good to see you (briefly) John!
Hope you enjoy the Hopkins concert tonight. It's interesting stuff, but perhaps a little over-orchestrated (choir! organ! BIG BRASS CHORD! ALL THREE TOGETHER!) and needed the works by other composers on the program to balance things out. -

Yes it was good to see you Jim, hopefully next time we'll have a chance to have a proper chat!
Thanks for the report on last night's Hopkins concert, it sounds great fun, I cant wait to see it! -

I wasn't there, but presumably that Prisoner of Azkaban piece was "Witches, Wands and Wizards", which compiles a few pieces of the score. It's on Silva's compilation. -

Correct, plus Knight Bus. Much better performance than the Silva and closer to the original session tempo.
