    NP: TRANSFIGURATION (Henry Jackman)

    A thread over on FSM prompted me to play this, a delightful, moody, artsy indie synth pop album from 2005. Such a versatile guy, Jackman.
    I am extremely serious.
  3. NP: Kraftwerk 3-D 12345678 (2017)
    The single CD compilation.

    New recordings that were produced for various live events. Nice variations, but nothing essentially new if you are familiar with the band. The sound though is stellar.
    I have lots of respect for Kraftwerk but that kind of minmalist machine sound has never been my first choice in electronic music.

    This work and in particular the chorale like 4rth movement are among my classical favourites.

    I've been listening to a lot of Ravel lately. I love Ravel. And since he wrote relatively little music (about 14 hours), it's fairly easy to binge, haha.

    It's a great listen, and a welcome expansion of the single CD version that was released in 2011 on the Capriccio label.

    An acquired taste, much of this operatic work (or melodrama, to be precise), but not altogether shabby. This is the San Fransisco Symphony/Michael Tilson Thomas recording.

    WAGNER: ORCHESTRAL MUSIC FROM THE RING

    Many will say Richard Wagner was the father of film music because of the great influence it had on Max Steiner, Erich Korngold, and Franz Waxman, something I can't argue with. Perhaps Thor will disagree with this and others on the forum. I also throw in Huppertz who I recently reviewed (Metropolis).

  27. There isn't much to argue about Wagner, when it comes to film music. His influence is obvious. I have worked myself through the Ring recently and mostly enjoyed it. My go-to short cut will remain the "Ring Without Words" album by Lorin Maazel and the Berlin Philharmonics.

    Yes, all of that! It's one of the most important John Williams releases of all time, and is a must-have to fans!

    I've not had a lot of experience with Wagner but need to research and listen more to him. I just got done reading about the orchestra pit in Bayreuth and its levels to control the volume and was most impressed. His personal life would make a great movie !
