Has it really popped up that often? I vaguely remember a Brokeback Mountain parody or two but not a "myriad".

Well, perhaps not so many parodies of the film itself (although quite a few of those too....just do a search on youtube), but the MUSIC has certainly been used in other settings to connote "gayness" between heterosexual guys, for example (let's say, Bush giving Putin a hug on Jon Stewart's THE DAILY SHOW).
    I am extremely serious.

Really? I had no idea the music had really permeated into pop culture. I've watched the film a couple of times and listened to the album half a dozen or so, but can't remember anything about the theme (except that it's for guitar). Though I am admittedly useless at that sort of thing.

Well, to be fair, I haven't seen it pop up that much in the last year or so, so as I said earlier, I want to give it some more time to see if it truly sticks as a musical reference point like those other famous film themes we've mentioned.
    I am extremely serious.

Who would have thought it? Gustavo is doing a Bolly film. I think he's just doing the score for Dhobi Ghat

Here is an exclusive video featuring behind-the-scenes footage of Santaolalla actually composing the score, a rare treat for film music fans:

I can notice that you don't know that the guy has been on the music industry over 30 years. That he's one of the most important musicians in Argentina. That he wrote some of the many popular songs of the country. That his group Bajofondo is one of the most praised. That the last year he played with his Bajofondo group and the Philarmonic Orchestra of the Americas in L.A. Walt Disney Concert Hall (he even conducted the orchestra). He's not just a guy who can touch simple guitar chords.

And by the way, the people who watchec Biutiful said that Santaolalla wrote a orchestral score with some guitar bits.
  4. He's a wonderful performer and melodist/texturalist, yony, but when it comes to Argentinian composers: give me Golijov! wink

Sorry for being flippant. I know there's more to him than his two Oscar-winning scores suggest. I wonder if he might get a third for this (though I know little about it). I see it's on the "long list" for the Baftas.

The Oscar promo of Brokeback Mountain isn't that bad, it suggest needs an overarching theme.
