What were your favourites growing up. What did you have and did you not have that you really wanted?

Lets see images and vids, share your ( old ) joys.....

I'm not sure if this is the actual set I had but it looks pretty close.

  1. I remember a huge (and admittedly not very coherent) Lego set that I had as a kid, I have pictures with a small machine gun, sorta AK-47 or M16 (with a soldier helmet to top that biggrin ), I also had an Atari 65 XE computer, which was sadly stolen later.

  2. When I were a lad all I had were a stick and a ball, and sometimes I didn't have a ball, and sometimes I didn't even have a stick. When I didn't have a ball or a stick, I had mud.

You had mud? You should count yourself privileged , when I were a lad mud were a luxury.

I can't remember which one but I had one of the earliest Atari games, the one where you could play tennis on 3 different speed settings.

  3. I indulged the little boy in me and bought this model of an American school bus some days ago:

It sits on the windowsill in my study now.

The manufacturer SIKU has its headquaters just a few km from here.

God, I can't remember much of the toys I had as a WEE kid. I remember my teddybear Bamse Bastian (which I still own, stuffed away in the basement...the only remaining toy I still own) and a Donald Duck car.

But as a somewhat older kid in the mid to late 80's, I collected -- like many other boys my age -- action figures from MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE (I had most of the cast as well as the Castle Greyskull), TRANSFORMERS, heroes like Tarzan, The Phantom, Hulk Hogan.
    I am extremely serious.

I collected everything STAR WARS. I own some original merchandise action figures that are of some mall value even though they have been played with and they are not NRFB.

And in the 80s I loved LEGO SPACE! Marvelous!

I got this beauty for christmas once when I was about 10 years old. I was in heaven!

Legos, always, lots of them. Had them greatly neat and adored them until my little brother came along 12 years after i was born and destroyed / mixed / messed them up.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

  8. I remember that one of my favourite toys as a child was my big collection of Matchbox/Dinky Toy/Corgi cars. I used to have dozens of them and I would race them around the house.

One of my favourites at the time was my Matchbox De Tomaso Pantera.

I was hoping for stuff like this to come out of this thread, you've reminded me of a long forgotten toy I had, also a De Tomaso car from Corgi...

    MANGUSTA

I remember being thrilled that the chasis could be removed.

Somehow I missed out on ever having the classic JB 007 Astin Martin from Corgi even though all my friends seemed to have it. The only James Bond car I had was this one from Diamonds Are Forever...

I do believe that my Pantera would have whopped your Mangusta's ass. What kind of a name is "Mangusta" anyway!!

Mangusta is Italian for Mongoose, a creature that kills Cobras, however a Mongoose is no match for a Panther, especially one with 'super fast' wheels. wink

On the other hand, for sheer looks and class my toy kills your toy stone cold dead. tongue

Not toys but I did have the MPC model kits of C3PO and R2D2, looked really handsome on my shelf back in the late 70's, I even have vague memory of building/painting them while the Star Wars soundtrack was playing cool

    I had a Star Wars model kit too;

    Darth Vader TIE Fighter

I never really played with it, but it did sit in a prime position in my bedroom.

  13. But what I did play with was my awesome S.H.A.D.O. 2 Mobile. I had hours of fun playing with this. On the other side of our street, down the back of their houses was what we called "The Piggery", an expanse of open land that had a variety of great terrains for playing in. I used to take my SHADO toy there a lot and it always coped well with anything I would throw at it!!

But, I was envious of my brother who had a U.F.O. Interceptor

But one of the coolest toys that I had was a Space:1999 Eagle Transporter. A few of us had these and we would sometimes fly in unison and peel off like you'd sometimes see on the show. Even today, I think that this is still one of the greatest-looking space vehicles ever created!!

  15. Did anyone have a View-Master?

Looking through all the reels that have been available over the years I am surprised by the breadth of topics that were/are available! I remember only having non-fiction topics. I particularly remember a set I had that featured underwater animals.
