True, Steven, I could have played the theme. The rest isn't very well suited for listening, but is perfect in the film. But in any case, I found the theme a little "too famous".

    It's too orchestral, overall!

I did consider "Training Montage" from SPACECAMP, but even that has quite a few orchestral elements.

As far as I know, Williams has never done a fully electronic cue.

Great selection of time travel scores Thor. Out of that list Back to the Future is a strong contender, possibly the most recognizable in regards to the time travel theme. Other scores that may have qualified though perhaps not the greatest music, but still fun: Star Trek Voyage Home & FC, Warlock, Beastmaster 2, Army of Darkness, Terminator 2, The Philadelphia Experiment, Escape from Planet of the Apes, Groundhog Day, 12 Monkeys, ... I seem to own a lot of scores to time travel movies! biggrin

    Anyway great topic!

Also, in doing this topic I discovered a few scores for the first time. I wasn't aware that Russell Garcia's score for the original TIME MACHINE was THAT good. I was expecting more gritty jazz-type stuff, but tracks like "London 1900" is pure pastoral delight.

And I hope the vigilant eye has seen that I've now included a Barry track for the THIRD time in my episodes. I can dislike his overall scores all I want, but by God -- the themes, man, the THEMES!

  3. The score by Russell Garcia is oustanding. The original recording is available from FSM, a partial re-recording (confused) from GNP Crescendo. Also there's a re-recording of the "London 1900" theme on Space 3 Beyond the Final Frontier Silva compilation.

It really is a wonderful score. The theme you mention, "London 1900" includes Filby's Theme, one of the most heartbreakingly poignant themes I have ever heard. Have you not seen the film then Thor?

Is there time travel in that? I thought that was an oldfashioned 'attack from outer space'-type thing?

  4. I think that The Day The Earth Stood Still doesn't really fit in this category as it's not time travel. Perhaps the same could be said of Planet of the Apes? That's just being asleep for a very long time and waking up rather than bending space-time and going all "timey-wimey"?

    wink
